M-Audio Studio Monitors

Hi all,

Anybody using M-Audio BX5 or BX8?

How do they sound?

I'm llooking for a pair of studio monitors but I haven't decided which of them yet. :?

I'm using a pair of BX-5s. I like them. :)

They have some handy switches on the back to shape its sound, depending on the size of your room and the closeness of the walls to the back of the monitors, which is really quite useful, along with some boost functions.

Sound-wise, they tend to reveal more reverb than most other monitors, which can be a good thing.

For its price, you probably won't find anything better, however. Behringer recently put out a set named Truth which are of similiar quality.

I would stay clear of the B2031 Truth monitors. I sent mine back to Behringer for warranty repair because of defective tweeters in both monitors (distorted crackly sound). They came back with the same problem. The music store and the rep at Behringer told me that this has been a big problem with these monitors. kind of hit and miss as to if you get a pair that will stand the test of time. So I ended up trading those in for a pair of BX-8 monitors and have been completely happy since. They actually sound better than the Truth's. The Truth's had a slight bass chuff sound from the two front bass ports. I have'nt had any similar problems with the BX-8's. Hope this helps!!!

I'm still not sure about the which monitors I'm going to buy.

There's a lot of difference in the price between some of them.

For example, I've been interested in Tannoy Reveal Active but even the output power is less than the BX8 they are more expensive, so I believe that they'll quite better.

I haven't tried them yet in any music store.

Here in Basque Country they usually work with Yamaha or Genelec. Genelec are very expensive!!!!! :( (they are build for real studio purposes).

I want them for a home studio. Do you really think that it does worth to buy a pair of studio monitors of the kind of Alesis MKII, Mackie HR624, Tannoy Reveal Active, Yamaha MSP-5, etc? ($$$$) Or would it be enough with Truth B2031 or M-AUDIO BX8?

It's not a big home studio. I've recently purchased my K2600XS with 4 ROMs included and I usually use it and the laptop together. So wich output power do you suggest me? Would it be enough with 20W (Yamaha MSP-3) or do you suggest me 50W at least? :?

I personally like the Truths better (and own a pair). To my ears, the Truths have a better frequency response over the entire audio spectrum than the M-Audio monitors.

Interesting, I haven't had any port noise problems.
