Yet another thread about Audio interfaces...

I have a desktop PC, and well, I hate it

my bro has a similar in power laptop (we bought our PC at the same time), and he hates it

So we decided to swap our computer, so that everybody is more happy.

Biggest problem for me, is that I loose my M-audio sound card (wich is pain in the ass for me, acutally - for several reasons). My bro want's a 5.1 home cinema in his room, so he could use my audio card, with 8 outputs.
So I will be needing a multi-channel audio interface - more money spending

Anyways - I decided to go with Motu Mk828kmII

It will be an upgrade for me, since it has guitar preamps with phantom power, mic preamps, 8 line analog ins, 1 digital in for my fantom (so I'll have 11 inputs, instead of 8 wich I have now).
It can also be used stand alone, without a PC - so you it is also a digital mixer.

So have anyone used Motu Audio interfaces? I have Motu MIDI interface - it feels like it's quality stuff.
Are there any other alternatives, in the same price range, with same features? (about 450 euro)

When I was at college we had a super PC in the studio with a MOTU audio interface. I'm pretty sure it was one of the 828s.
Never had any troubles with it, it's easy to use, good quality, and great sound.

Wish I had the cash to get myself some of the motu audio and midi interfaces. Could really do with them.

I have the 828mk2...got it about 8 months ago.

I love it, for many reasons that I've stated in a few different threads. The multiple uses is #1 for me though, but that isn't individual to just MOTU.
briefly:
-I use it as a monitor mixer when I run our band's sound
-I use it as a personal monitor mixer to make my own in-ear mix
-I use it as a personal mixer for my 2 keyboards
-I use it to record my band in multi-track at times to my computer
-I use it to mess around and record at home

I have it configured with a few different presets to take care of all the situations listed above.
Being a 7-piece band, we sometimes don't have enough monitor mixes from the venue to support our 4 members that have in-ears (myself included). I usually just split off the FOH board to the MOTU and create our 4 monitor mixes from that, all saved as a preset.

I've been quite happy with it and should it ever break, would be looking to get another one or an mk3 or something.

Anatomic: I am also looking for a new interface! I have checked many different brands, but found out that MOTU probably is the best choice. Many of the pro's is listed above.

What software do you use?

Just bumpin this a bit, Anatomic - if you do get it let me know what you think. I don't have much of anything to compare my thoughts of it to, so would love to hear a 2nd opinion.

I have the Motu HD192 an a 2408 mk3. Love the sound. Easy to use test feature set. If you getto the point where sound quality isn't at the level you want there is a company that upgrades the converters and clock which makes it sound even better.

There are only two interfaces, that can do these things: the Motu 828 MK II, the 828 MK III of course, and the RME Fireface series. Never had any problems with motu or RME.

Then I got really lucky on my random Craigslist purchase in snaggin up the 828mk2...
After seeing all it could do, having anything else would be a disappointment.

Good to know though.
