Alot of the MIDI files I get can't play because I don't think I'm getting them full sized or something. Those files takes like 10 seconds to download, and that's a lot of time for MIDI. :)

BlobVanDam: could you zip and mail me all the MIDI's from the DT section you've done to erik@littlehillband.com ?

I was thinking of starting some transcriptions for EoP (it's the only solo album I have). If there was any in particular you wanted me to do (or any specific part) I'll do that one. I don't like Slightly out of reach and smashed, so I'm very reluctant to tab those ones.

I like the whole of EoP so if you did any songs off that I'd definitely be interested :) but nothing specific leaps to mind other than the ones I mentioned. Dont worry about transcribing songs you dont like - not much point in that!

I'm probably going to do Pretender or Undecided first. I'm also thinking about Freak or Invisible. I'm a fan of the heavy ones ;)

I got up to about 9 minutes then kinda gave up. And it wasn't even the first 9 minutes. I finished the hardest part, and I'm too lazy to finish the easier parts. I can't wait to hear the intro for your midi (the part you've already done)

^actually ill contest that :p , as i believe the continuum/lapsteel intro was the hardest thing i have ever transcribed.

Sicne there was no tempo, i set it to 120bpm, and made note of what notes were coming in at what seconds, etc... It was pretty painful. Im glad its over.

Yeah, it is really hard, but at least it's simple to tell what notes are being played. It's the really loose tempo that makes it hard. Having every instrument shredding at high speed in crazt changing time sigs is harder IMO, but I see your point.

Well here's a bit of a bump, but i'm slightly irritated.

I downloaded a MIDI of DT's Funeral For a Friend, with the intent to learn the keys to it - they have a nice feel to them, IMO.

However, i've lost the MIDI.

I don't know why, but I deleted it from my hard disk, and have since been unable to find the MIDI. I'm sure it exists, I just can't find it on the first seventeen pages of Google.

I don't suppose anyone happens to have it latent on their hard drive, would they?

I'm willing to trade my entire collection of DT MIDIs, the list of which I posted a few pages back.

These are guitar pro 4 files. Download the demo version if you dont want to buy the program, and then in "file" go to "export" and select midi and you can convert them into midi files. Theres great midis on the site for nearly all dts song!

Hi, I'm new here.

I've been looking everywhere for an "About to Crash" , "About to Crash (Reprise)", "Losing Time/Grand Finale", and "Overture" MIDI, but can't find any of them anywhere. So, I figured I'd make a request. I realise that's a lot, so I'll just request "About to Crash", so if anyone can do this, or can tell me where I can find it or any of the others, I'd be very grateful. :tongue:

Well, About to Crash is in the Dream Theater Keyboard Anthology. As far as i'm aware, there isn't a MIDI or suchlike for the Reprise (Though it is mostly block chords revolving around those used in ATC). Same goes for the Losing Time/Grand Finale. Overture - do you mean Overture 1928? I think that's in the Anthology too.

SInce he's mentioning 6DOIT, I think he's referring to that Overture. I've started a good transcription of it, but it's nowhere near finished. I've seen other transcriptions though (although imo aren't very good). It's a very complex song (ever wondered why even DT don't play it live, instead just having an intro tape of the whole thing?)

btw, didn't anyone like my tab of the final countdown?

seeing Dave's Over the Edge clip and transcription, ive officially started working on a MIDI of Crossing Over from RPM. yeah, its a tough one, but id like the challenge. so far ive got the intro with the bass and main melody. ive found the notation itself easy for the most part, but what i was preocupied with for most of the time was the rhythm and time signatures (as stated in a previous post). i think i have it right now. the only thing is that its not synched exactly with the audio file in cakewalk. but it's pretty close. if you dont mind, anyone who knows or can easily check, let me know if you agree with these time signatures for the intro. i just want to make sure im on the right track before going any further (please dont laugh at me if i have something that really isnt possible or is just dumb, im a little new at this stuff :lol: ):

(metronome set at ~163)

You can download a program or a demo of guitar pro and import a midi into it. Dunno if you can import midis with the GP demo though.

I've checked out gaz's midi of These Walls on blobvandam's website. I opened the file in Sibelius but all im getting for the synth solo is a sustained A note even tho i can hear it playing perfectly.

What's wrong?

Hi Zul,

The reason you are only seeing a sustained A note is because of how i made that section of the midi.

I made the midi on a guitar tablature program called "Tabit", where you can control pitch bends by increments at any given time... I decided with the main synth parts for "These Walls", to try and replicate Jordan's portamento sound, i would just sustain an A note and punch in various pitch bends to simulate the notes actually being played.

I made these midis to be more palletable from a listener's perspective rather than from a practical (learning the song) point of view, so you will find things like this in alot of my midis. I had hoped things like this would translate into other programs when imported though, but judging from some of my feedback, they don't. I need to get a new transcribing/midi/writing/recording program, but the simple fact is that i can't afford one.

What i will do is tell you the notes, i guess:
