Hello guys,
I'm trying to do a midi chain with my keyboard Motif ES8, triton rack into my Motu soundboard.
Motif out -> Triton in
Triton thru -> Motu in
Motif in -> Motu out

Within Cubase by playing my Motif I can play Motif sounds or Triton sounds by simply switching the stereo bus.

If I want to play MIDI, I set the tritom on channel 2 and the motif on channel 1.
My problem: I don't hear the triton when I set the midi track in channel 2.

What's wrong?

So you have two MIDI tracks in Cubase, transmitting on Channels 1 and 2? Perhaps the Cubase -> Motif connection is carrying both channels, but the Motif -> Triton connection is not passing on Channel 2. Is it possible to send multiple channels of MIDI with the "Thru" line?

If I create a Midi track, the midi is playing only the sound of the Motif even if I change the channel. When for istance I set the triton channel to 2 and the Cubase track channel to 2 and The motif transmit channel to 1 I only hear the sound coming from the Motif.

So my problem is how to use the sounds of the Triton when I want to hear the midi that I've recorded.

It seems complicated :frown:

OK, it sounds like MIDI messages aren't getting to where you want them to go. The first step would be to take your Triton (on Ch2), and plug it directly into your MIDI interface, and try that - does it work? If so, great - Cubase is sending MIDI on channel 2. If not, find out why - it'll be a Cubase problem.

If it isn't a Cubase problem, that means it's something to do with your Motif. Try swapping the order around, so your Triton is first in the chain (still set to Ch2), and your Motif is last (still set to Ch1). Does the Motif work? If so, great - problem solved. If not, then it could be a problem with a MIDI lead (i've had some very strange ones, including delayed notes - just from a dodgy lead), or how either keyboard handles MIDI thru information. If that's the case, it would be best to open up that big paper thing that you get with keyboards called a manual, and take a look through it, reading up everything it says about MIDI - that should then help you fix your problem.

Remember - with problems like this, it's best to be methodical. Change one thing at a time, so you can gradually start whittling them down, until you're left with the problem.

Hope this helps ;)

yes, the midi communication with Cubase channle is working. I think I need a midi controller in order to be able to switch between the keyboards and racks.
Are you guys familiar with it?
see you!
