I was in my local guitar center today and found a new 88-key M3 with the christmas tag still on it for $2,999.99. Regular price is $3,499.99. In addition to this, Korg is offering a $500.00 rebate on any new M3 purchased before April 30 (or a free Radius rack module). Now, the manager caught the price and said it isn't on sale anymore, but he'd honor the price for me and could hold it until tomorrow night. Should I take the plunge, or do you think I could find a better offer than this?

As of right now, I'd take the rebate (making the eventual price $2,499.99) instead of getting the radius module.

Sounds like a great deal, if you've got the spare cash then I'd go for it! That would be just over half the price you could get one for over here.

Sounds like a good deal... I would not take cash though...

Radias module is sold at 1000$ new... and if you don't like it, you can always sell it for 600-700 bucks or something... especially if it's new and still has warranty.

Go for it with the Radias module, sell them both before even opening the boxes, and use the profits to finance a Motif ES or XS.

Lol... Radias isn't that bad, really.... it is very powerful and good sounding synth (for a good price) but I don't know if it will be good in combination with M3....

There's an idea I never thought of. Just one more decision to make.

Omega,
Korg says it will take 6-8 weeks to receive the rebate or the radius. I'm not sure I could sit here for two months without opening the M3 hoping I could sell both for a profit. Honestly, I was in there to decide between the Motif XS and the M3, but this price made the decision either harder or easier...I'm not sure which yet. I like the XS keybed quite a bit better, but I like the M3 expandabliity options. Either way, I've got until the end of the day to decide if I want to take the plunge.

You can always sell them separately  who says you have to wait? Just sell your new M3, let's say for 3000 and then, when Radias arrives, sell it for an other 700 bucks.
Or keep M3 and sell Radias, or sell M3 and keep Radias, or keep them both.

But are you sure they are talking about Radias-R and not M3 Radias expansion board? To good to be true, if you ask me...

Yeah, just sell the M3 right away and sell the radias when you get it. I dont think you could sell the M3 for 3k, but you could probably get 2700 or so out of it (NIB). Then if you could get 500-600 for the Radias, you would make like $300.

Sell the M3 for a profit, get an Alesis Fusion 8HD and maybe a new CME controller for the Radius and them pocked a bunch of cash!!

Radias is worth 1000$ not 1500$

And IMHO 300$ profit is not worth your while... 3000$ is a reasonable price, for M3 + Radias. But buying and then selling them is stupid.

If you don't want M3, just skip this offer, and get what you want.

It's not like you can sell it right away, you know! I don't have experience with that type of sh*t, but first to actually earn this 300$ you have to find 2 poeple who want to buy it! And still, there is no guarantee you will actually sell it! Maybe Korg will lower the price tag, and you are crewed...

So IMHO 300$ is not worth the troubles...

Reselling synths is not nearly as easy as everyone here is making it sound, even if it is new and unopened. Think of the time it will take to find a suitable buyer, shipping costs, ensuring that it's a fair transaction...you will be hardpressed to make any profit at all. I suspect in the end you will probably be on the losing end.

I agree with AnatomiC...buy what you want. You'll have it immediately and have nothing else to wrory about.

It depends on where you live. Ebay doesn't even really exist where I live... all they sell in my country are user manuals, freaking user manuals!

Besides, I would be devastating for me - selling a synth, after laying my hand on it! :frown:

Sure it is.

even if it is new and unopened.

This makes it a lot easier because the buyer knows it is still in perfect shape and they will still have the warranty, etc...

Think of the time it will take to find a suitable buyer,

2-4 weeks maybe. Hardly an eternity.

shipping costs,

Paid for by the buyer, not the seller.

ensuring that it's a fair transaction...

Yeah, TOTALLY hard to "agree on a price". That hardly ever happens which is why nothing is ever bought or sold. Oh wait.

you will be hardpressed to make any profit at all.

Only if you are dumb about it.

I suspect in the end you will probably be on the losing end.

That's always a chance you take. No guts no glory. I dont think it's likely in this case.

I agree with AnatomiC...buy what you want. You'll have it immediately and have nothing else to wrory about.

Except if he goes through with the Korg thing it will make buying what he wants that much easier.

The sad part is sometimes I move them in and out so fast I hardly have time to toy with them :frown:

Wow, a simple "I disagree" would have probably sufficed, but I am impressed by the fact that you took the time to dissect and refute everything I said word by word. I guess our experiences have differed in this area.

I passed on the offer. As much as I wanted the M3, all of your suggestions made me really disect the options and I began to waiver on my decision. Realizing how many different options there are tend to clear (or cloud) my judgement. Having said that, I will take the plunge for my first big workstation when the time is right. I think it might be worthwhile to wait until NAMM to see what Roland is planning (if they are replacing the Fantom line), what the Kurzweil PC3 will really be like and hold my breath a little longer. The good news is, the longer I wait, the more money I'll be able to throw at something. The bad news is, I'm not going to be making any music until I bite the bullet and buy something!

I'm pretty sure Roland will disappoint us all with their new repacked Fantom driven workstation, or a V-synth GTXT - rack version of V-synth with 19 inch plasma screen
Come to think of it, V-synth GT is already 1 year old! Damn, time flies fast...
