I just bought a Studiologic VMK-188plus MIDI controller. I'm looking for some sort of freeware that I could use to control my keyboard with my computer. (Right now I'm using a different, but extremely clumsy device.) I already have a usb/midi interface, but I'm looking for software in which I could change voices and such. Help's appreciated- I'm new to the world of MIDI controllers.

I can't really give any advice as of right now, but I'm considering getting the same controller and I was wondering what your thoughts are on the keybed and the action. I don't have any stores near where I live to try one out, so I'd have to order it to see if I even like it.

Actually, I went with Studiologic because of the action. I tried out other brands at various stores, but they felt too much like a synth instead of a piano. It's definitely weighted action. Since I posted the last thread, I found a simple program called MIDIRouter, but I can only get a piano sound and there's at least one second delay until each note is heard. I would definitely recommend the keyboard, it's just finding a program to use it with that's puzzling me.

How about MIDI-OX (http://www.midiox.com/) ?

Thanks, MIDI OX works. However, I'm still getting a delay from when I play a note and when it's heard. What settings would I need to change to fix this problem?

To be of the most assistance, can you tell us what kind of computer you're using? Whether using XP, Vista, Mac OS X, how much ram it has, the speed of the hard drive (5400, 7200, 10,000) will make a difference. Another thing that could help is the kind of sound card. The more you can tell up front the better.

what's your actual sound source? Are you playing soft synths? If you are, make sure you are using ASIO drivers (if it's a PC). Using the default directX drivers give you lots of latency. It's not a midi problem - it's an audio card problem. If it's just a cheap soundcard (as opposed to a dedicated audio card), just use these drivers (http://www.asio4all.com/).

Oh yeah, I guess this would help: I have a Dell PC running on Vista with 894 MG RAM. I downloaded the ASIO driver (thanks). I'll see what I can do this sort of thing is out of my realm.
