I agree with you, RAN7ARAVE.
There are no decent organ patches in the Motif XS...

I would describe them as... hmm... what's the word... Excellent?

This is an interesting discussion. I just upgraded to the XS, and to be honest I'm a little dissaponted in the organs. The highs and mids are pretty good, but the low ends fall short. They sound tinny to me. Also while tweaking, the amp sims sound really muddy and airy rather than beefy and driving.

I've only had the XS for a about a week, so maybe my opinion will change. I've been planning on buying B4 for all my organ sounds anyway, so even if my mind doesn't change...I'll have that.

If you find that you still aren't liking the organ low-end after a while, there are a couple of things you can do to tighten it up - one would be to compress your organ patches (probably with an external compressor), but of course then you'd lose the dynamics of the organ's swell pedal, which is not really what you want.

You could also try running your organ patches through a multi-band compressor, which will only compress certain frequency bands - i've had good experiences with them tightening up floppy electric bass parts, and while the electric bass and the electric organ are two totally different instruments, it might be worth just trying it out.

Thanks for the compression idea.

The problem that I'm finding is that, when I get into the low registers, I"m losing the tone, and I'm hearding just airy/muffled sound rather than a strong tone. I A/B'd the crunchy patch with my ES rack, and I think the ES sounds better. The ES had a nice presence, where on a lot of the sounds on the XS, I start to just hear the click of the key with a lot of air...I feel like the amp simps make it sound even more muddy I'm going for that ballsy keith emerson/deep purple organ that rumbles on the low end and whose mid range is real beefy.

Some of the lighter organs sound really nice though.

For a workstation, I didn't think the XS's organs were bad persay.. but overall, I didn't care for them. The only workstation I know of with a really good hammond sound is the Oasys, though..

Yeah, but don't forget - Oasys has an entire organ sound engine, so It's kinda obvious!

It could be your amplification, or you could just need to tweak things a little for your particular setup.

I'll keep trying. It's hard with workstations because they're trying to cover so much ground. I don't have money for the oaysys, so I'll get by for now with some tweakage, then I'll move onto B4.
