Hey guys!
I have been thinking about getting an organ for a while now and found a pretty good deal with a Korg CX-3. It turned out though to be the old version, and I havenīt been able to find any soundclips or so if the emulation is good or not. Anybody who has the experience or owns one, or have a page or something with soundclips?

I played a vintage BX-3 (double manual version of the CX-3) a few times. It is a nice rock organ, but the 'Leslie' stinks. If fed into a real Leslie, it can sound really cool, but the organ on her own, isn't as good as a modern clone. I don't have any examples, but I think, depending on the music, you want to make with it, it could be a nice addition to an existing setup.

Keep in mind, that real organ playing includes the use of an expression pedal, otherwise, you won't have any dynamice, wich a real organ has a lot of! Played a four-houer-show last night only with my C-3 and it was real fun al the time.

Best regards

Cheers Toby! Well that was what I was afraid of, cause I canīt be bothered buying a leslie as well, then I can just by the new clonse instead. Of course, sweel pedal is half the fun:) Nice, what type of music did you play then?

An old Korg CX-3 came through one of the stores I'm associated with, and tbh I thought it was a little naff (can't think of a better word!). The new CX-3 is a great instrument, the BX-3 was a little badly thought out in that you didn't have the ability to add pedals etc - probably why it's no longer around.

LOL. Yes, the organ on her own isn't that convincing. But, as I said, through a Leslie, it's another thing. I didn't like the new CX-3 anyway. Played it for about a year and didn't like the Leslie simulation... same for the new BX-3. Missing pedals are for most gigging musicians not that bad, except the organ trio players and gospel guys, cause you have a bass player most of the time.

Right. It's depending on your music, if it's a good idea to get a Leslie (or a Hammond). If you just want to play organ sounds some times, most clones would do it and wich one you choose, is a matter of taste. Hammonds and Leslies (Rhodes too btw.) need (some times) a great deal of maintainance, so if you have one of the real ones, you have to work for and with it... and if you want to move it: have fun!

This gig was a quite big soul show: drums, percussion, bass, giutar, keys, organ, 5 horns, 9 singers... 20 people on stage. No rehersal with me but a lot of fun

If you really can't be bothered lugging a Leslie around (and who can, these days?), the Boss RT20 rotary speaker simulator pedal is excellent value and much better sounding than the built in simulators in any Hammond clones I've tried. Plus it also has a really cool rotating display that noone (except you if you look at your feet while you're playing) can see

That one looks cool Spacehog, but I think Iīll probably put more money in to a new clone instead. Thanks for the advice though. I might consider getting one later if I want a better leslieemulation!

Wow, that sounds like some fun Toby! Iīm jealous man!;)

I have an old one CX-3 and it's sounds with real "leslie" speaker quite good. I'll find some samples and post them later.

Cheers

Of course, then there's the issue of it not having midi out/in... so there's no room for expansion. But that may just be an issue for me.

Hm... it's an organ. Personally, I tend to play audiotracks, not MIDI tracks, when I do a layout. And beside that: I didn't find an organ, that suits my needs, that has any possibillity to upgrade, except software, but as an instrument, thats way over 20 years old, you should cont on the fact, that there is nothing, you could upgrade, except some ICs :D

Well, I think I could do fine without since I have my triton as well and my rhodes(which is some new werid version and also has midi:P) I mostly want and organ for the feeling and the noncomplexity.. that it just simply is an organ, with drawbars and stuff of course, but not to much more.
