Ok well I have been thinking about buying a roland sonic cell.
Does anyone know how are the sounds of it (fantom-driven) compared to korg's sound?
is it good for metal? I read a other day here that roland is not so good for hevier type of music, I have no idea why but anyway?
And if you know any good places for samples... tell me :).

Sounds are just different... I would say acoustic sounds are better on Fantom - Sonic cell.
Fantom is rarely used for metal, but it has good sound, so you can make something fresh with it  but if you wont to imitate, Korg, which has more "metallic" sounds, would be better, because it's more used it Metal. But there are Roland metal groups, and it works fine...
Sonic cell is a deal btw - 700 bucks for updated Fantom x rack...
I have both Roland and Korg synths. They both sound awesome, in different ways.
But I'm more interested in ambiance music for the moment: electro, trance, dance... it's cool also. A synth player gets more attention, if he plays synth based music, like electro
I would recommend to check every synth out, and see which one you like best... there is no absolute correct answer to your question.

I kind of know how Korg sounds along with kurzweil and yamaha a bit too.
But I have no idea about the roland heh. Is there any videos of someone acualy using a roland in a band? I mean roland rompler like the fantom...
thanks for the answer :)

There are plenty JR and Fantom videos...

not really metal... not metal at all actually.
Jordan used also Fantom x to create DT's latest album, and I think Dragon Force has it also... but like I said, you are more likely to see Korg in a metal band.

yeah it's true that you see korgs more (in our contry no one acualy sells korgs - heh).
Anyway I am trying to look something new to companion my korg board - mainly with something new and useable to play with... plus some new FX to play with too... Korg sounds good but I am a bit tierd of it, the reverb is great but I would like to hear something warmer and less metallic.
And Jens johansson uses roland right?

V synth GT all the way, including for strings and other stuff, as it's very dynamic and intuitive.

V synth GT = big LCD/assignable knobs, switches = lot's of menus = lot's of scrolling, browsing = not intuitive
If you ask me, you have to know pretty damn well, what you are doing, if you want to make sounds with it....
On the other hand, something like Nord Lead or Radias, which have 1 knob/switch for every parameter, are very intuitive.
V-synth is maybe dynamic, but certainly not the most intuitive synth there is.
I wanted to show some JR metal V-synth videos, but it wasn't his question
The question is, would be Sonic cell good for metal? I think the answer is: you should decide it yourself, just go to a music store, and see what keyboard/rack you like best, and what gear suits your need best...

Okay, for someone who knows what to do then it is, but for someone ho wants to twiddle knobs and feel everything then not so, but it's still versatile and intuitive.
Damn well more intuitive than most, we aren't talking Triton Extreme's here.
But I agree. See what's on offer and what would be best for you sound wise.

I tested V synth at a music store... Great but 2000€out of my price range :D.
So... Also I can't reall test sonic cell around here, so if there is any metal band that uses it I would like to know...

Sonic Cell is Fantom x clone. Try out Fantom x, and you will know how it sounds.
This thing is pretty new, so I doubt anyone has made music with it (on professional level) and released it, or recorded live performances.

Yeah I know, I ment does anyone know if anyone has made music with Roland Fantom line synth :).
It is kind of hard to decide... I dunno if the soundset is good, but at least the FX (Roland has the best distortion) and the fact that you can record through it (+ Sonar LE seems like a decent software).
anyway there are no fantoms around here... anywhere. But I saw a V synth and sonic cell a other day (but couldn't test the sonic cell).
Anyway I will try again probably on wendensday and see if I can test it, but even that doesn't always tell everything... Some sounds just sound awesome in the mix and some don't.

You should look into getting an XV5080. That must be one of the baddest "sounds only" modules you can get right now. Basically going to be comparable to the Fantom S or X, you get 128mb to load external samples into (might have to add memory SIMMS first, not sure), PLUS 4 SRX expansions and 4 JV80 expansions if you want to, to have basically any sound you could possibly need, and that's not even getting into programming the thing yourself.
The whole "Korg is good for x, Roland is good for y, Yamaha is good for z" way of thinking is really just a myth. Really, modern Roland and Yamaha PCM/workstation synths can pretty much be anything you need them to, limited mainly by your imagination and programming skills. Korg is the only one with any serious limitations (in the acoustic/realism department, but even this can be minimalized by good programming).
I'm not super familiar with the Sonic Cell, but it doesnt really seem like it would be the best thing for live use, if that's what you have in mind. From what I understand, it seems like the best application of it is for people who are just getting into synthesis and recording at the same time, and want a recording interface as well as a good source of general sounds in the same package. Actually, knowing Roland Im sure it's really cool with lots of great features, but I dont know if it would be what you're looking for right now.
A more budget oriented option would be an XV-3080, or even the 2020.

Thanks omega monkey.
Yeah the thing is I don't think they have XV-5050 here (the market is pretty much all yamaha and Nord leads=clavia) and SH market is non existant. I think sonic cell basicly is like JV-2080 so it's not quite a XV-5050, (BTW there is sampling in XV-5050?)
Plus I can't record with my current setup becouse my comp's audio card is so bad, everything comes out very distorted... and like I said sonar LE is cool to have too but is still a gimmick.
So basicly if I want get something it must be sonic cell(or juno) or some yamaha rack (getting a other korg would be stupid) that costs around 700€ OFC external FX processor like GT-8 would be cool to have but I think the cost is a bit unjustified, plus I have like 10 BOSS disortion and other pedals and TBH some FX (like delay nd reverb) are just bad. Then again I like Korg sounds pretty good, but I would just like to get something new, GAS has got me :).
