I have a KURZWEIL Pc88mx and a Roland JV-1080 sound module. Now I want to create setups on Kurzweil, including sounds from the module. How should I do that?
Hey, I'd like to know this too because I have a k2500xs and a jv-1080.
So far the jv-1080 changes it's Performances or Patches whenever I change programs & setups on the k2500.
Seems the jv-1080 randomly changes Perf's & Patches in
User/Card/Preset A-D/Exp A-D.
No chance of calling up Patches above 100 (ie 101-127) from the kurzweil due to Kurz's 0-100 x10 banks. :?

I wonder if they have something like that in the manual... *HINT HINT*

The solution, not the problem, lies in using MIDI Setups. Each Setup can have up to 4 Zones, with each Zone consisting of it's own Bank/Program settings, key range, MIDI channel, etc.
To control one of your modules, create a Setup that has the desired key range, make sure it's transmitting on the same MIDI channel that your module is listening on, and assign the Zone a program number. To access Programs higher than 127, you must also assign a Bank number, which will depend on how your module likes to recieve Bank/Program changes. Lastly you would assign the Zone to only play MIDI rather than Internal or Both, that way any activity on that Zone only gets sent to the MIDI Outs of the PC88 and not to its own internal sound engine.
Between having 127 possible Bank change values combined with 127 Program change values, I'd hardly call having 16,129 possible program changes limiting. :P

well the problem of creating setups persists...I put one sound in Zone 1, alright, but how to put a different sound on Zone 2???
Kurz - Roland Control
Btw - glad you asked this question because I needed to figure this out and I just learned
how to do this.
For this example I choosed ch 1 as my control channel on both synths
System>Control Channel 1
Put jv1080 in Performance mode:
Press parameter>midi>palette
~~~~~~~~
Press MIDI Mode XMIT
Channel: 1
Control: Both
~~~~~~~~
Select Clear Setup 98 and press edit:
Zone 1 will control which Performance it calls up.
LocalPrg: (has no effect on the rcv'g sound module, just the Kurz's local sounds)
Channel:1
MIDIBank: 0 (changes automatically to entries in MIDIProg:)
Heres where you select the Patch per zone
MIDIProg: 0-999 (Kurz=Roland compatability1=2, 101=102...)
Destination: Local+Midi or Midi
Press chan/bank to go thru the zones and make selections up to 8 zones max.
To see the patches being selected on the roland:
press parameter>midi>palette
use the < > to change view of parts on the jv
make adjustments to each part by pressing the part select switches
Save the setup and save the performance. When you select that setup it will recall the performance with sounds assigned to each zone.
( zones 1 thru 8 ) :D
Ps- I never tried controlling the jv via setup editor, that is where you get
selection of 0-127...
However in program mode or using midi mode I'm still confused on controlling the jv :?:

wtf?!?!? write it normally, so I can understand it!!!

That IS normal. The reason you're not understanding it is because you haven't read the manual enough - it's ALL in there.

how this can be normal?! it doesn't even say WHERE to press anything! or kurzweil or on module! :evil:
Stormdood u r whiney.
Don't blame me if you're that much a noob.
Geez now I'm with Enigma on this one - Read your manuals! And buy a personality. :lol:

well i am really new to this thing, so it's confusing just to see "press this press that" if i'm acctually working on 2 things, don't you think?!

oh yeah one more thing...everything you wrote what to press on kurz, is meaningless, since i have a pc88mx and NOT a k2x00 and the controllers are completely different!!! :roll:

Here's another fantasic idea - RTFM!!!
*Read the Fucking manual*
That info wasn't expressly for you. As a synth community it is for anyone that uses a K2x00 and a Roland jv1080
What I wrote down is from what's logical infront of me and is not universal info for all Kurz and Rolands obviously.
Spend some time and effort in reading your manuals instead of being an unhappy camper. :roll:
Hi St0rMl0rD, don't get angry or sad about the comments to read the manual - it's just that most people think it would be easier to ask questions in the board than reading the big manual. The problem is that the chance to find someone who has exactly the same setup like you is very small, and it's hard to describe something about a synth that I don't have myself.
Another more important point is that you'll only learn the basics of your synth if you start with the manual or try out things on your own. If we just tell you what button to press and what knob to turn you'll never know WHY you have to press it.
So go and try some things out, read the manual, and then ask questions if you don't understand a specific thing. This will help YOU much more to get into your own setup :wink:

Thanks for taking the time and patience to explain that to him. You can give a man a fish, and he'll eat for a day. *If we tell you what to do, you'll stop asking for a day* but teach a man to fish and he'll eat forever *if you LEARN HOW and WHY you're doing it, then you'll stop asking these questions because you'll already know the answer*
Wise words... *put's that into his note-papers* 8)

good boy! Don't worry, I have to read it yoo, the k2600's manual is BIG! :( . Ah well, it's part of the muscianship

oh well...the roland's manual just sucks...i didn't even have will to read the whole of it...since it's extremely complicated :?
You don't have to read the whole thing. Just look up the things you're interested in - then you'll find some things that you also don't understand, then look up those ones. And there you are, knowing everything you have to know. The rest comes later...
