Hi,

I want to connect 2 SCSI devices to my K2500.

I have a CD-rom player so I want to load samples into the K2500.
And I have a JAZ drive to save my setups including the samples.

What's the best way to connect the 2 devices?
Just to connect them at the 2 SCSI ports of my K2500?

Depends on your K2500 - do you have an internal harddisk? If so, then your K2500 has to be at the end of the SCSI-line, because with HD it's terminated. Otherwise select "termination enabled" at the small switch on the back of your K2500.

Now you have to find out if the CD-rom or the JAZ-drive is terminated. Perhaps there's also a small switch at the back, like it is when you have a zip-drive.

Your K2500 is the one terminated end of the line. Then connect the Jaz-drive (NOT terminated) to the SCSI-port (not the thru) and after that (if your JAZ-drive has a thru port) the CD-rom (which has to be terminated then).

In every case you need: terminated device > not terminated device > terminated device.

I don't have the internal HD yet.

So first I have to set the K2500 to termination enabled?
Then connect the JAZ drive to the SCSI port and then the CD-rom?

I know that the cd-rom has 2 connections at the end. One I have a cable for and the other is some kind of plug to close the port. Is that some kind of termination-plug?

Is it a single CD-rom drive, or is it built into an SCSI-case? I can't say that this ways, could you take a photo and post it?

Some questions, because there are lots of possibilitys to connect the devices:

1) has the JAZ-drive two SCSI-connectors (that means 1 thru)

2) has the JAZ-drive a termination-switch?

3) do you mean the CD-rom has 2 SCSI-connectors?

4) what kind of plug is it? Just a kind of cover, or a kind of connector to put on?

5) are there any other switches at the CD-rom?

I forgot to mention that the devices have to have differenet IDs, you should be able to select them also with some knd of switch anywhere...

the CD-rom is build into a SCSI case.
1.JAZ-drive has 2 connectors
2.Haven't seen a termination switch yet as I am at work at the moment
3.CD-ROM case has 2 connectors
4.The plug is some kind of cover
5.From what I know the only switches more are the ID-switches

As far as I can tell... I also use a CD-rom in an SCSI-case, and since I could connect it without problems it should be terminated. Your Kurzweil can be terminated too if you enable it with the switch at the back. If there's no switch at the JAZ and it has two connectors it could be non-terminated. So I'd suggest the following:

Kurzweil (SCSI-port, NOT thru) > JAZ > CD-rom

The Kurzweil-ID should be 6, take any other ID for the CD-rom. After connecting everything you'll see the JAZ's ID in disk mode.

As I said, the only things you need for a SCSI-chain:

- first and last device must be terminated, all others are not terminated
- every device needs a unique ID

So I need to connect the CD-rom to the Jaz drive and the Jaz drive to the K2500?

Or can I connect both on the K2500 directly?

In this case both are connected to the JAZ. If the JAZ is also terminated you can also disabele the termination of your K2500 and plug cd-rom and JAZ into the K2500. Then cd-rom and JAZ are at the ends of the chain and have to be terminated, while the K2500 must not be terminated.

No problem, just tell me if it was a success

Cool, a thread consisting only of two people :-)
