Hi, is there a way to get samples from my K2500 to the computer only using MIDI? I don't have an SCSI-card in my PC, and the files are too big for floppy disk transfer...

nope - I don't think midi supports that and if it does, I don't think the Kurzweil supports it...

Brett?

I use zip 100 drives. You can get a used drive for about $15 USD. The one for your kurz will be SCSI while the one for your computer can be either parallel or USB (or SCSI).

I have an SCSI zip 100, but I don't have an SCSI port, and there's no USB connecotr at the zip-drive...

I'd think so too, Enigma, but you CAN go to the Master-page > objects > dump and then select a sample and the kurzweil sends something, don'T know what...

It does dump, but not the raw sample data- It only dumps the start/end point, loop points, naturally applied envelopes, etc.. The raw sample data isn't sent.

IN the first paragraph of page 6-2 of the k2500 manual it says :
"Samples are stored in the k2500 ROM, or loaded into optional ram via diskmode, MIDI STANDARD SAMPLE TRANSFER, SMDI sample transfer...."

I don't know whats that ... but well maybe it helps...

yes, is possible. i've used SMDI before buying a scsi device. you need ad audio editing software (like Soundforge) that let's you to transfer data via midi. all necessary steps are explained into K manual.

see ya

It would be good to know where in the manual... ;)

That's why you buy another one (either Parallel or USB) for your computer. I bought my last Zip 100 for about $15 USD off e-bay. I have two Zip 100 drives (one for my Kurz & one for the computer). Even if you could disconnect the zip from your Kurz & hook it up to your computer, you would be better off just buying another one for $15-$40. That way all you have to do is eject the disk and insert it in the other drive and your "good-to-go".

I've never tried transmitting samples via midi but I read it is really slow.

I also have the Zip 250 scsi on the Kurz and a Zip 100 usb on my Mac.
That's the way I transfer files by swapping 100mb Zip disks bank and forth.
