Hey guys, just got back from seeing Symphony X last night in Montreal... wow what an awesome show, they've really reached a new level with their stage show, it was the slickest I've ever seen them perform, it was mind blowing!

Thought you guys might be interested to know that Mr. Pinnella finally traded in his trusty Korg 01W / Roland JV setup for a brand new shiny Motif... and what a great improvement it is :O He can play a lot more of the orchestral stuff and it sounds just killer, same with the choirs. He's also using an Ultimate Apex stand now, and he's got a string of those tube lights strung up underneath the top tier, to illuminate the bottom keyboard -- a cool solution to a problem I bet a lot of you have had, me included. Plus it actually looked really cool from the audience :)

All in all it was the best keyboard mix I've ever heard at a SymX show (the sound overall was awesome too)... they have a new lighting setup where the guitar / keyboards get spotlights on them when they do their solos, so finally the sound guy knows when to boost the keys :)

Anyway awesome show, if you guys get a chance to see em live don't miss it! Michael Pinnella is bad ass :D

great to hear the improvement in sound. I have been to a Symx gig for 3 times right now and always had the worst sound possible. I sometimes even couldn't name the song they played because it was one big pile of noise. Very very bad and very sad for such a good band. They just need a proper sound.

what's he using besides the Motif? I get to see them next Monday for the second time and I can't wait. The last time was on Gigantour in Orlando - they got to play a grand total of 17 minutes or so. An absolute travesty.

Besides the Motif he's still using his JP-8000 for all his leads, and he had some dinky little midi controller off to the side to trigger samples.

yup, they sound awesome! i saw them almost a month ago and they are touring with a great show! and Michael Pinella isn't the only one who changed his gear.. Mike Romeo also changed to Caparison guitars.. don't know about the amps he used, but it all sounds really good.
don't miss the chance to see them guys! their new album rocks!!

Wow, sounds really good.
That will be one of THE events in '07: DT supported by Symphony X! I'm so looking forward to it!
I hope that they finally will get the respect they deserve and following that, I wish them a bit more success! SX really kick ass!
