After being out of the MIDI/synthesizer loop for a while, I decided to get back in with the purchase of the PC1x. The quality of the sounds beat the pants off the now-retired TX802, IMHO, but not the Xpander's still uniquely analog sound and feel. As an ex-pianist, I liked the feel of the keyboard in the price-range that I was operating in. It has a remarkablly good mimic of a real piano keyboard's "action" feel.
My problem is that the programming "map" of this instrument is quite complex, and the manual is just horrid. Add to this is, of course, the Kurzweil gestalt, but I had hoped for a real manual instead a collection of tech-notes and conversations with lots and lots of digressions. Is there anything out there that can help me figure out how this beast works, from which I could easily enough backward-engineer what is embedded in the instrument and what I could do with it - programming-wise. The manual does not explain in a way someone who doesn't know anything about Kurzweils could recognize as the heirarchies and programming/modulation webs and networks.
For instance, something as easy as changing the CC-number for the Foot Controller is mind-numbing in how inaccessible it is when put in generic MIDI terms. I found the CC-Foot Controller and it is assigned the CC-number 14. Great. Now I want to change it to CC-number 7, so that I could control the volume on the down-stream Xpander. I bet it's easy - but where is it. I've taken to parsing the .pdf file of the manual and doing searches for items of interest to m, but more often than not, my terminology is not the terminology used by the Kurzweil engineers.....
Any help would be really appreciated,
VV
