I'm looking for some advice in regards to orchestra patches. Upon where do you map everthing?

I have presets but I'd like to compile my own. Cello's,string, tymphany, brass,<Which brass? French H,Trump..etc

Any advice of these mapping would be a real help as I'm a tad lost on this subject. Have even tryed to study Jordan's patches & the divides but to no avail. To quick & complicated for me.

The reason I put this subject here was it sort of relates to keyboard gear. Athough I'm aware it's not a hardware issue.

Oh & just to add. Haven't even thought about panning & how that would work an all.

Dudes...this is deep. lol

You might find these two links helpful - the first for the ranges, the second for panning placement.

Thanks you so much. That's more than I could ever wish for.

Much thanks owed to you Grey Loki.

Sorry Fretpick, for not being able to answer to your question, but damn, Grey Loki, thanks for the links. I've been looking for this kind of stuff for a while.

I would say, listen to some music using symphony orchestras (film scores, Holst's Planets suite, and so forth), and note down what you hear, and when - generally, brass is used for louder, more aggressive parts, whereas woodwind is used for something much lighter, with strings between the two.

Of course, this 'rule' is broken almost as much as it is adhered to - just use your ears :)
