View Full Version : K2600 - JR sequential patch naming
Does anyone know how JR names is sequential patches for each of his songs? I'm trying to do the same on my K2600 and would like to know what the best method is.
Thanks for your help

I don't know pal but anyway why you don't name them as you like?Is it really necessary?

If would be an organized person, which I'm not, I would name it:
Abbreviation of your song: for example DOE: dance of eternity, followed by a number of this patch.
e.g.: DOE:1, DOE:2
But I don't see any point of actually doing it.

on some of his interview videos where he's showcasing his rig, he'll show that he likes to name his patches with hints about the patch, like, "LwrBbRiff" meaning that he'd use the lower section for a riff in Bb or "PnoWHrpC#" for Piano with Harp for a section in C#...or stuff along those lines.
Personally, I use song names followed by a number, as -=AnatomiC=- suggested, but it's all up to you. Personalize!

since I've been doing this, I've been naming things like this:
SONGNAME_Vers_1_1
SONGNAME_Vers_1_2
SONGNAME_Prch_1_1
SONGNAME_Cho_1_1
SONGNAME_Vers_2_1
SONGNAME_Vers_2_2
SONGNAME_Prch_2_1
SONGNAME_Cho_2_1
SONGNAME_Cho_2_2
SONGNAME_Brid_1_1
SONGNAME_Brid_1_2
SONGNAME_Brid_1_3
SONGNAME_Brid_1_4
SONGNAME_Cho_3_1
SONGNAME_Cho_3_2
the first number signifies the verse/chorus #, and the 2nd number signifies the sequence number in that particular section. So far it's worked pretty well for doing regular rock/pop music.

I just use the name of the sound. I don't see the point of using the name of the song with a number of the patch. Lets say you play an organ part, but you have skipped a patch when you did a program change. Then it's much easier too call it back by looking at the name of the patch instead of "Was the organ patch at the number 3 or 4?"

i usually name the patches i make after the songs they are used for, but try and put something on there that makes me laugh when i read it...
for my comfortably numb, the main patch is called "Comfort my Bum"
for the organ sound for Spock's Beard's "Devil's got my throad", the patch is called "Devils got my Organ"
that and i also like to leave notes about a patch in the name...like "SW1" as a tag if the SW1 does something important. or "SPLIT C4" if there is a split at C4.

Jordan only describes what the sound does in his patches. For example, if he remembers a section by naming it something specific:
LH RIFF in A or
Bb/Eb Ab/Db W/Chours
Honestly, whatever works the best for you. I figure it's more of a matter of remembering what section that you're going into next as opposed to remembering what the sound does. (Just me anyway)
