Hi Everyone,
I would like to know if anyone can give me some advice about panning. Im using a KORG N364 to sequence bass lines for a band im starting up. Im panning bass to the left channel and click track (for the drummer) to the right.
Heres the problem…..Even though I have programmed the panning 0% left (for bass) and 100% right (for Click Track), there still seems to be some “leakage” between the L & R outputs on my keyboard. I was under the assumption that when panning to the extreme, there should be no sound being shared between the left and right outputs. :?
Would the FX Processors have any affect on this (parallel series etc…)? If anyone can help me out, I would really appreciate it… :)
Adrian
I would try it without effects to determine if the fx is causing the leakage.
If you are still getting crosstalk it might be your mixer.

Theres no mixer (ive already eliminated that factor)....L&R are going directly into 2 Mackie SRM450's

Yeah, it definitely sounds like an effects thing... disable the built in effects and you should get your discreet sounds... any effect with any kind of ambient quality (reverb, chorus etc) will spread the sounds across the soundfield a bit, which will give you the leakage you're experiencing.

Although I sympathise with your desperation, you STILL have to follow the rules. Trust me, if more people can see it, it doesn't matter because the people who know the answer usually check gear talk.
That's why it's there.

I removed all effects from the sequencer and still have had no luck.
1 thing which it might be is that I have a 1/4" STEREO connector going direct from my Mono/Left to the XLR on my speaker. Now i know that mono should appear there, but when i put it in the right output, i get the same thing.
is the keyboard Korg N354) smart enough to realise only 1 input is being used, so it send it out in mono, on both the left and right output. I would have assumed that the right channel was stereo no matter what. :? I dont have the equipment here at home to test it.
Thanks
Adrian (the amature :) )

Are you doing this panning on your live mix ?
How big are the venues you are playing ?
Does the PA run in stereo ?
I have found that the best way to run is mono.
This ensures that when you are using any sound system, in any venue, you don't have to worry about trusting the soundman to get the panning right. Generally they tend to get busy with other things and forget details like that. If you're running your own system, again its one less thing to worry about, and depending on the size of the venue, it might be difficult to get the full effect if you're not standing in the "audible sweet spot" (where stereo mix can be heard the best based on your speaker placement).
Hope this suggestion is useful.
