I've just installed a new M-Audio Audiophile 2496 souncard, and I'm having, I guess not a difficulty with it so much as it's just not operating the way I expected it to. Previously, when I've connected audio sources (usually a K2000, Micropiano or a Rocktron Voodu Valve to the input of the onboard soundcard, I'm used to hearing it come out of the speakers that are connected to the onboard sound's out. I figured out how to record from the 2496's audio ins, by changing the device setting in Cubase, but then to listen to those audio recordings, I have to change the soundcard back to the onboard sound. I had expected that I'd continue to hear any audio coming into the system regardless of source from the main out.

So I guess my question's this: how can I set Cubase (or indeed windows) to let me hear what the 2496 is bringing in, or in the alternative, route all system sound out via the 2496 so that I can unplug the speakers from the main system out and connect them to the 2496?

Sorry if this is an elementary question.

The best thing is to disable your onboard audio card from the BIOS. Did you configured both Cubase's ASIO panels? you can find'em on Cubase program menu. Here you can uncheck your onboard card leaving only the new one for your tasks.
