As most of you know, this song has something completely undesirable at a certain point, for those of you who don't, listen to Home, Metropolis Pt. 2, Scenes from a Memory, 7:59 - 8:41, the right ear.
I am sorry to say this ruins the whole song for me and cannot appreciate the keybaord solo that comes next and leaves me with a headache for the rest, hence this track is not in the playlist of this song.
Can someone explain to me why this is here, it disturbs me greatly and it's annoying too, but moreso a tad on the unnessecary side and because of what I am it's very offputting.

Okay, well I have to agree it certainly is something undesirable, I always have to turn down the sound at that part while playing it on my speakers because I don't want people think I'm watching porno or something  But I wouldn't say it ruins the whole song though, it's just that I find it questionable as of why to put it there in the first place.

That's what I want to, what the purpose of it is.
It ruins it for me because I'm... different.

No one here is going to bash you because you're gay, we aren't in middle school. Stop being so worried about it man.
As for the song, I have no idea why it's there, but I don't really mind either way.

That part is there because of the story line of Scenes from a Memory. Bear with my explanation, because it's been a while since I really thought about Scenes. I may have the names wrong and whatnot.
At this point in the story Julian, who was just broken up with by Victoria, is drinking and gambling (hence those noises) while his brother Edward is screwing Victoria (hence those noises as well.) They use these sounds to tell the story of what's happening between these characters and to emphasize the difference between the love that Julian has for Victoria and Edward's lust that turns out (in Finally Free) to be plain ol' crazy obsession. Julian's love for Victoria is expressed throughout the poetic nature of some of the songs, while Ed's obssession is just an audio porno. There used to be a really good explanation on dtfaq.com, but I think that site has been down for a little while.

P.S. Someone just posted where dtfaq is now (thanks dech2410!) so here's a link that explains the whole story of Scenes from a Memory; http://faq.dtnorway.com/question/1032. It's about a 10th of the way down the page.

Thank you.
I sort of understand now, I've tried to follow the story but I haven't had time to sit down with a decent HiFi, a few candles, a nice drink and some epace and quiet and listen to it beginning to end. There are many names flying around and it's ahrd for me to keep track, and I struggle to find where the listener, in therapy, Nicolas, fits in.
I want a quiet evening darnit..

Quite frankly, SerFox, I find the fact that you take this song offensive because of your homosexuality somewhat misunderstanding. . According to the whole "plot" of scenes from a memory, this section seems necessary to me and only makes the song much better... The line between music and sexuality was combined into one in this song and broke into what I may say is one of JR's coolest lead solos! It's musically orgasmic!  heheh I can understand how sometimes your sexual preference may diminish your ability to bring up or accociate with sexuality, but in this song, it just seems to fit and is very damn cool...

I'll be surprised if it truly disturbs you only because you're a homosexual.
I think it's good for a first listen, but when I want to listen to the song normally, without thinking of all the nuggets and concepts, it's kind of annoying.
I, too, have to lower the volume, because it would take an eternity to explain the album concept to them, lol.

I think it's awesome, it fits to the song and the whole SFAM thing. love it.

It kind of annoys me too, just because if anyone else hears it, it sounds a bit suspicious :P
If you want to understand it's place in the song better, watching the Metropolis 2000 DVD with commentary will explain the entire story quite well.

It isn't, but I'd rather leave it at trhat since it's a deeply personal reason. And this is not what I am discussng either.
I'll see about getting my paws on the DVD.
