Why aren't they showing John Petrucci on his solo.. And why does he play the wrong notes on the video on the moment they do show a piece of his solo... Hmmm mysterious..
I love the end when John Myung falls on the ground   He's one of my most important musical inspirations.
Well, I like these songs more and more while I listen more to it. But for me nothing can beat disc 2 of SDOIT..

What ever happened to melody lines?
Most of that sounded like pure NOISE.
Damn.

I just saw that for the first time as well....
Fun stuff.
Camera was not on when I played the ending Continuum solo though!
Too bad! That solo crazy enough was my first take when we were down the rough tracks!

Two questions. I don';t know if you'll have the time to answer but it'd be nice.
1. Did you guys break a light bulb to get this sound? It's noisy, very dischordant yet melodical at times. What the heck? Where's the usual light?
2. Please pretty please with lots of ivory and shiny instruments of awesome covered in pre brilliance with diamond studded buttons gold knobs and a platinum joystick tell me are you playing Octavarium this tour, even though this is an album release tour, it's my main inspiration, and if I'm going to be dissapointed, I want to know first off so I'm not on edge waiting the whole thing not enjoying it fully to be dissapoionted at the end.
Nice playing by the way. =)

Hear the Mike's intense drumming!!
dadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadadada.....w hew!
This is the very song for the HEADBANGERS in the world!!
I'm not a headbanger:biggrin: but I prefer this song to Constant Motion. WOW! It's sooo cool!!

Very cool... Indeed, the continuum solo was very intense.. It seems like DT didn't want to hold back on the heavy aspect this year. I really enjoyed the keyboards tracks for this song.. Very cool stuff Jordan!

By the way, JM didn't fall out of his chair. That was payback from John from the famous tackle oh so long ago. He just tackled him so fast the camera couldn't catch it.

I love Octavarium but will be very sad if they waste 25 minutes of their show playing the song when they just did that last tour......maybe 10 years from now, but they have too many other songs they need to do, especially the new ones and who knows how short their show is going to be now with an opening act. Hopefully not short at all....thank God they aren't at that rectum called Radio City Music Hall. I think it is beautiful there, but unfortunately their "posh" pretentious self-image leads them to think they should have a curfew in the city that never sleeps, hence cutting the 20th year anniversary show down, and charging insane amounts of fees for going past the limit of 11pm
I was there and I loved it, but not DT working under the gun, that was just lame of RCMH.
Anyways, I can't stand schmucks that say this new stuff has no melody. They must have no brains because a melody is a succession of notes forming a distinctive sequence and there are MANY distinctive sequences in the two songs. So stop talking from your anus, and stop your hatred. Oh, and those who think the vaudeville part was outta place........shut your mouths. The part fits precisely as it gives an old school horror movie effect based on the context of the song and the dark feel of it.
All these people that think they are producers saying that DT isn't making music that makes sense, or that it isn't good should just do us a favor, save us some oxygen, go jump off a building.......its getting old that we have to hear a bunch of people who probably bag groceries for a living telling us how Dream Theater isn't doing their jobs correctly.........hmmmmmmm

'Waste'? Um, excuse me while I gouge my eyes. Octavarium is an epic piece of music, and they will have to detour away from their new stuff from time to time since it's so dark like always they will change the pace now and then much like other shows.
And besides, last year I didn't know about Octavarium, or much of DT for that matter. and it hasn't been until this year i've been allowed to go to gigs by myself (I'm 18 now so.. yeah)

I'd like to say that it sounds good, but to my ears, it doesn't.
Oh, musically - it's stunning, and i'm really looking forward to the album, but from a production point of view, IMO, the drums are too loud, and the keys aren't loud enough.
I hope it's just my speakers, though :S

Loki I agree, but bear in mind this is before the mixing and amstering process, this was the recording phase, so things arent going to be perfect yet ^^

Hey Melodic, this is a place where people can voice their opinions. If you disagree, that's fine, but this was pretty damn harsh. Lighten up a little, it's a just a forum...

You can go gouge your eyes out now if you please. Waste in the context to someone like myself who has seen it performed live is not insulting their music. Waste in my context means, they could play 3 to 4 other songs, and what makes you think I was talking specifically about new tunes? lol, you know what they say about assumptions. They have tons of material that they could utilize 25 minutes with. And just because you missed out last year, doesn't mean that everyone on Planet Earth have to sit and watch octavarium while because you will be sad. Actually, why don't you save your piggy bank up and hire them for your birthday party, request it.
Silly , "because I didn't hear it, they should play Octavarium"
self-centered don't ya think?

so you are telling me they just released and unmixed and un-mastered version of the song when they could overlay the finished track (given that the mastering is done by the time the video came out)? I doubt that.........highly

There are other better ways of voicing opinions. It's like you're trying to pull off negativity with your remarks.

On what grounds can you possibly be so sure about one being an asshole by reading what he wrote about a song or maybe an album? And yes, it is your opinion, but humiliating other people opinions and maybe call them assholes is not a friendly way, and if you continue no one will bother answer you or even read what you write. Isn´t it better then to actually discuss on a more mature level and stop with all the unecessery hard words?

Look for fuck sake people this is an internet forum will you all stop bitching about other peoples views? Seriously? Fucking hell. Melodic, you were very short and harsh, but now you're just trying to cause a flamewar, and this isn't what we need. We're discussing this video, not how to voice opinions. I agree with staccato, you're being overly dramatic and judgemental of my views and lokis views and everyone elses. You're not calling a spade a spade you're dancing around going "I'm right your wrong I'm smart youre dumb." and that's not a clever way to voice your opinion.
Start your posts if you're going to debate with "I see your point but..." "Maybe, but maybe also..." "How about this, though..."
And just to add: I wasn't being self centered, you've blown this all out of proportion and you're tyring to alienate me as some sort of as you put it 'schmuck' or something. All I asked is if they would be playing it because at a couple of other concerts ive wanted to hear songs played and they havent played them, and I was on edge,s till enjoying the concert, but my mind kept wondering if theyd be playing the song next and they never, and itd be nice to know if theyw ere gonna play it or not. If not, fair enough. But I'm not gonna throw a hissy fit if they don't, it'd just be nice to know they arent playing it so I dont have to sit in anticipation. A fault, if you may, but its how I feel. Got a problem? WHatever.
Don't argue, debate. And stop being so uptight and pathetically argumentative. Nopw can we get back on topic before the mods come and start handing out suspensions?

To get back on topic:
so you are telling me they just released and unmixed and un-mastered version of the song when they could overlay the finished track (given that the mastering is done by the time the video came out)? I doubt that.........highly
Yeah, they have. Because it's a 'production' video. Not a single or album release. If it was the fully mastered version of the whole thing, I could open audacity, record it, then stick it on limewire as the fully finished version. I'm sure many have already done that claiming to have the album version. But the album version of this will be mastered, leveled, EQd, and any effects added or tweaked. Becuase this doesn't sound completely finished, the levels are a little off, you should be able to tell this, it still sounds very raw.
And if Rudess would take the time to either confirm what I say is true, or even say I'm wrong, fair enough, but I stand by my opinion that this is just the recording phase, not the mix/mastering. Hence they were recording it in the video.

Actually, if I ever go and see Dream Theater play live, i'd quite like for them to 'waste' almost half an hour of my life playing an amazing epic of progrock goodness ;)
Now, back to the topic:
Is it possible to get any technical details on the upcoming release? Say, what effects were used on what tracks, which desk channels were assigned to what, and so forth - I have what I guess you could call a professional interest in this sort of thing :D

I just noticed something after the second watch through. Why does Jordan have a roll of duck tape on the pitch joystick?
You can see it in the clavinet sounding part at 3:55.
