the endless debate - Jordan vs Derek....why do we do this stuff? Hmm Chick or Herbie?? Horowitz or Rubinstein....
My 2 cents - both Jordan and Derek are outstanding rock keyboard players. Neither of them can hang with guys like Steve Weingart or Mitch Forman but that's not their deal. They're very good rock keyboard players and they've influenced many of us, present company included, a great deal. I'm a better player for having been influenced by them and that's all I really care about!
Check out a YouTube from my recent European tour - you can hear the influence these guys have had on a jazz player.

A totally pointless debate.....
Derek is great
Jordan is great
in different ways.
End of discussion.
The rest is personal preferences.
I like em both for different reasons.

agreed.
Jordan is very special musician for me but,
this is my trivial private matter.
Derek is also great musician.
To compare is nonsense.

+1
Read Monk's post.
Mike said the best. Jordan is the ultimate keyboard player. Derek is the ultimate rock star and Kevin is the ultimate artist.
Exactly!! I agree with Mike.
DT needs the ultimate keyboard player. I can't imagine DT without Jordan.

Well, PERSONALLY i think derek is more of a live guy, showing off some more 8just look at WDADreU DVD)i think derek looks cool, and hes is more of a simpler guy than jordan, now jordan is also great in live, but he doesnt look as cool as derek.... but thats just my opinion. i think JR can do a lot more complex stuff than DS but they are simply different styles.
For writing stuff id choose JR... For cool live performances (although not perfect ones) DS.
But again, thats is just my PERSONAL opinion, dont take it too personally Jordan :D

They are both geniusses and great musicians. The funny thing is that there is a reason for this all that you canīt possibly compare them. Derekīs backroung is more the jazz and fusion, whil Jordanīs background is like he says: "I have always kinda been in that progressive rock kind of thing". Furthermore, Jordan is more comfertable in DT then Derek us, but comparing is useless...

If we agree that they're both good and can't really be compared, then why do people keep posting in this thread...?
Hmmm...
