Is the Kurzweil PC88 a good keyboard? Anyone who has it? I have an old Kurzweil Midiboard, wich is a clumpy, heavy thing. And its only a Midiboard. It has almost no effects, and the few it has, ain't much good. I'm looking for a better one, and I'm in love with Kurzweil.

I can get the PC88 cheaper than most other keyboards, and if i buy it, when i can afford it, I'll also buy a ExpressionMate Ribbon, cus' it can do ALOT..
Give me your thoghts and ideas about this.. Thanks!!
PS! I know this is more of a GEAR-question, but what the hell...

Not really, outdated. You better get a Pc2X.

I'm surfin' thru eBay.com and I found a PC1X wich ships to Europe, wich suits me well, living in Norway, to the cost of $1195... That's a affordable price ain't it? I mean, if I'm gonna buy that same board in a store in norway I would probably have to pay at least $2600.. So what's the big difference between the PC1X and the PC2X?

Hi!!!
I think, the PC1X has no special MIDI - Setups, less Effects, less Sounds, and less Controllers than his big Brother. I dont know if it can send Bank Changes.
I play the PC88 and I think, itīs still an very outstanding Instrument. Itīs very well build ( the PC2X is it, too ).
I would go for the PC88 ( or the PC2X, if Money is in your House :) )!!!
Greetings!!!
Johannes
Edit: I didnīt see that you already have the Midiboard. If you are looking for a new board because of better Sounds, the PC88 should not be your Choice. Itīs Sounds are a bit outdated. How about just a new Expander to your Midiboard (Triton Rack, Motif Rack or FantomXR)?

I don't like the Midiboard!! Way too big and Ugly... Doese'nt look good... And it has no cool effects...

Many Choices:
1.
PC88 + Expander ( Roland JV1010 or XV2020, perhaps used ) -> Tip!
2.
PC2X + Expander ( Roland FantomXR, Triton Rack )
...or something between these...depends on your Money
3.
A Workstation ( FantomX 88, Triton, Motif, K2600X or older ones like K2500X -> Tip! )
Ciao!!!
Johannes
P.S. PC88 and PC2X have no Ribbon Mate, but PC2X has an Input for the Mate. The K2500X has this Thing...

Hmm, why would you need to dig up a year old thread to post selling info?
For the record, I have the PC-88 MX, and it's really only good as a controller. A few decent sounds, but most are oudated, and worse yet, non-editable.

I bought a PC88 a couple of weeks ago, and I'm blown away!
I bought it for 800 new.
It has got 32 sounds, a couple of built in effects and it is a MIDI controller as well as a piano. It's definately worth the money!
The main reason why I bought it was that my teacher told me that I'd need a bigger keyboard than my 61 keys synth, and I'd also need a good piano sound.
I loved the Kurzweil piano since the first day I've heard it (that was RPM ;) ).
My second board is a Roland XP-30 and I've connected them via MIDI. You actually don't really need an additional ribbon, since the SP-88 comes with three ribbons in it. Two are on the left and they work just as the big ribbon controller on the K2.... series work. OK, these ones are smaller, but hey, you even have TWO of them. :D (The third one is the volume controller which you can program, too.)
I am very pleased with my new setup and I don't need anything else. (I hope I will still say this in 5 years ;) )
If you're looking for a good Grand Piano, the SP-88 is THE deal, because it's cheap, not so heavy (talking about the 88 version, not the X version) and you get a couple of great extras.
If you're looking for a board which is more of a master keyboard, you might consider looking for something else.

It has got 32 sounds, a couple of built in effects and it is a MIDI controller as well as a piano.
It has a lot more than 32 sounds, and the effects are three reverb presets, two chorus presets, a delay preset, and three "warm," "bright" type EQ settings.

It has a bank of 64 "interval voices," plus the standard 128 GM ones. The MX expansion board, which I have, gives you an additional set of voices.

dunno i didn't bother with sp88 or pc1x. you might as well save for another month and buy pc2x. it is miles more capable than the pc88.
About hooking up a triton rack to the pc2x... i thought it was a good idea, but i lost the use of my ribbon (and without working screen i can't change the midi settings on my TR to match them grrrr. also the inbuilt sounds on the pc2x are actually quite good, miles better than my TR actually but then again i bought my TR to make sounds on so its ok....
sorry no help, but i reckon you'd be better waiting a month or 2 because otherwise you might be really dissapointed....
