I just got this awesome Idea, to make soundfiles like kids playing, and screaming, and mario saying:"It's a me, mario!" and put them on my kurzweil.
Problem
Is it possible? How????
Jordan did it with the spirit carries on, when that lady starts singing.
Do I have to do something with digital in???
Doesn't it use a lot a of memory?
Please let me know, I want to suprise the guys next gig which is within two weeks.

You need the soundfiles in a kurzweilcompatible format (wav, aiff) and then import them into the sample-RAM via SCSI. If they're in 16 bit, 44.1 kHz stereo, the Kurzweil can manage it. Then you have to built a Program, that uses this sample and use this Program in your Setup...
Problem is, that the samplememory will be deleted after you turned off your machine. You have to load the samples each time, you start your Kurz, in the same order you loaded them in the first time. You can wright a macro to load your samples in the right order at every start up...
Sorry, I'm an a hurry and don't have the time to answer in detail right now. I'll be back later, or may be someone else will help you...

Okay thanks so far, I still don't het the part about the samples being deleted after shutting down. But I'll find out.
I mean jordan didn't have any scsi connections for the soundfiles he uses on the kurzweil... Or did he??? or did he just save the sample on his rom?

Most RAM, including the sample RAM in the Kurz, is volatile; it must be constantly refreshed or else it loses its contents (roughly speaking). This is different from ROM or flash RAM, both of which do not require power to maintain their contents. This is why all samples in RAM are "deleted" when the keyboard is powered down.
JR could have used one or more of several methods to store his samples. The K2600 can have an internal SCSI hard drive. He also could have used either an internal or external drive on a K2600R for storing samples. Alternately, he used Triton racks with hard drives for sample playback at one time (if I remember correctly, he said this in the 9 degrees of backstage tourbulence videos).

Jordan has SCSI drives he uses with the Kurz. The best way to go about this kind of thing is get the samples into the machine, do all your programming (making sounds using the samples, etc.), then BEFORE you turn the machine off (because the samples are gone when the power goes away), save your work to a disk of some sort. If you use the internal floppy drive, you can get 1.4MB of data onto a single disk. That's program data *and* waveform data. If it's bigger than that, the Kurzweil will make a "spanned disk set" which includes multiple disks containing one load for the synth. Even easier, get a SCSI hard drive and connect it, then save everything. It's also much, MUCH faster. Good luck.
The ROM on the Kurzweil is just that, READ ONLY Memory. You cannot save samples to the ROM. There's no way to make the samples survive a power cycle. You need to reload each time.

hmmm I get the picture, is it possible to use my labtop a scsi hardrive ?
that woul be cool cause i got loads of memmory on that thing, I got a zip, floppy scsi thing too which can contain up to 128mb , which is kinda nice too.
thanks for the advise guys I'll go puzzle it out,

The floppy would do it to, 'cause the Kurz can have up to 128 mb od Sampling-RAM, but I would recommend to install a hard drive into the K, cause you could take the synth to a gig, without connecting anything to it. Prepare your sounds at home, store them on the hd and use them in rehearsals and on gigs. Nobody would see the difference, when a hd is installed internally: bigger surprice ;-)

Ok , I'll contact the local music store about that one, cause my kurz is pretty full already, got like 7 kb left or something, and that aint much.
