Hey guys,
I'm on the lookout for a keyboard to act as a studio controller for the next year or two. I'm modest in terms of means, and thus aspirations, at the moment, having recently moved to the US; but I want a controller (not necessarily weighted, not necessarily 88 note, but the more the better).
One thing I can't compromise on, though is the keypress feel - I don't need it perfectly weighted, or weighted at all, really; but a lot of the cheaper keyboards on the market I've played have absolutely horrible keypress feel. It feels like they're going to break. Anyone who's played the cheaper end of the Roland line known what I'm talking about here.
Sounds would be nice, but aren't essential - it's going to talk to Kurzweil and Roland modules. It's all about the keypress feel.... And being likely to be under $300 used. ;) I was going to shoot for a Korg X5, because I've used them before, and I know that the keys have a nice, solid feel. But I've also used the cheaper Roland stuff, and the keys are HORRIBLE.
So I'm just really after ideas for boards that you guys know that don't necessarily sound great, that aren't that cutting edge, but that have a pretty nice feel, that don't feel fragile or about to break if someone plays honky-tonk on there. ;)
Thanks for your time,
Simon
