Hello all... I'm a new forum member, it's nice to be amongst so many like-minded individuals, there's some great stuff here.. I can definitely see myself spending lots of time on this.

I was just wondering what midi notation software people use.
I've been using Finale with my keyboard but it has some problems with splitting up tracks and treble/bass clef notes. It also seems to have trouble with getting some sounds right... and can be awkward to use at times. It would be nice if it also mixed midi and audio recordings.

So can anyone recommend a good program??
It would be much easier than trying a bunch of different ones.. I figure you guys should know best.

thanks

Logic 5.5.1 for PC, or 7 Pro for Mac. Although, 7 Express would suit your needs as well, I should imagine.

I use them (both versions) all the time, and they are IMO the best sequencing and recording package out there, including Pro Tools :O

Yeah I use Finale '06 for my arranging, but I never use the MIDI input. Well heck, while we're at it, anyone wanna explain how to do that for a n00b?

If you're making serious orchestral scores, Sibelius is by far the easiest, most logical efficient and user friendly software.

If you're just looking for something to put notes and a few dynamic markings and lyrics and even some chords down, any of the bargain programs under $100 will do fine.

If you're looking to mix audio and midi recording, then you're looking for recording software, not notation software. I don't know of any program that does both very well.

If you're looking for something that will turn whatever midi you play into an absolutely perfect, readable score that you could instantly print without any editing, you're out of luck. Doesn't exist.

I use cakewalk pro audio, and cubase sx , I have to say cakewalk is easier and clearer to use for notation, but it's cubase that runs the vst's.
