Hey guys. I'm interested in learning to play synth, and I was wondering if there is a good low-budget keyboard out there I could get started on, preferably under 500 dollars. If not, I'll just pick up a decent midi controller and use Reason on my computer.

How about a second hand <insert popular synth here>

Have you tried searching the forums? There are hundreds of threads just like this one. Have you searched somewhere like www.sweetwater.com and then Harmony Central's reviews database?

I think a used korg trinity comes close. Or maybe the old fantoms by roland???

Thanks for the replies! I searched the forum a bit but I noticed alot of people recommending the Yamaha s90, which is no longer that cheap to buy. It seems like the synth world changes frequently, so I figured I'd ask again to get a more up to date recommendation.

The Korg Trinity seems to be what I'm looking for. I'll check into it a bit more.

It's not really that fast-paced, there's just a lot of material to take in all at once - synths have been mass produced since the 70's, and there were batch produced models before even then.
