I think my Kurz is getting a failing grade in the "plays well with others" category. I'm having difficulties getting it to work well with Power Tracks 8.0 and Band-ina-a-box. I can't have my computer software set the patches (especially my piano patches located in the 700s). I can have it set lower numbers (like a bass patch in the 80s), but the name that shows on the computer screen is not correct. I've been getting around this by telling the software not to send patch changes and setting them on the Kurz myself.

Is there an easier way?

Well the thing you have to remember is that most Computer stuff is based around GM shit... So Although the kurzweil banks go 0, 100, 200, etc.. they're not seen in that way by the computer. The computer looks at banks and groups as starting over at 127.
To get to the Stereo Piano, program 771 you'd have to do this: Bank 7, program 71. I use Sonar and that's how I have to do it as well simply because of the midi out data being sent. Anyway, I hope this helps...

Just out of curiousity, Is there a nice inexpensive recording software that works well with the K2500?

"Nice inexpensive"... now there's an oxymoron for you :) At least in terms of recording software...

K2500 responds to Bank Change midi message to go over 127.

Bank 0: 0-99
Bank 1: 100-199

and so on... every midi sequencer software that supports bank/patch change can do that.

see ya

Oxymoron? :? I guess it would depend on what exactly was ment by the two very relative terms "nice" & "inexpensive". Inexpensive to one person might mean under $100 USD; while to another person it might mean less than $1,000. If you bought one for about $1000, I'm sure it would be "nice" when compared to the free Power Tracks 8.0 that I got when I ordered Band-in-a-box.

I should have been more specific. Sorry. If I wanted to spend about $200 (also I might be eligible for student discount), what would be a good PC Software product for recording MIDI (with my K2500XS) & Analog Audio?

By the way, I'm not knocking Power Tracks. I'm new to all this recording business and I'm currently having a lot of fun with the Power Tracks program.

Check out Sonar. Cakewalk is good but Sonar is more studio based, has more pro features, and is generally more user friendly.

And Axiom- I don't know about the rack, but when I send the patch change message to my kurzweil that's over 100, it simply goes to patch 99 on my Kurzweil - To get the sound 100 it needs to go to bank 1 to get the 100's bank internally :)
