I'm looking for a cheap midi controller. the problem is that i'd like to have weighted keys so I won't learn to play only on synth action... a controller with 88 keys is a bit too large in size, weight and price for me so I was wondering are there any good WEIGHTED controllers that are cheap and light? (76 keys is an option... but 61 is not enough)

I've been after the same thing and have never found one.
I used to own an AKAI MX76 which does have piano weighted keys, so you could try ebay for a 2nd hand one. The action is not like a nice hammer action though. Also the Akai MX1000 would be a good 2nd hand keyboard to get which also has 76 weighted keys. I'd personally, if I were you go for a Roland A37, it is semi weighted and would be the best all round keyboard action for Piano, organ leads etc and would help your technique.

In Germany there is a company which makes controllers with 76 keys hammer action. Expensive though.

why don`t you try the M-audio 88, heard is kinda cool and only $500, Or the Studiologic SL990 $400 (though his doesn`t have a screen, so playing live could be messy)

Yeah the Keystation looks like a great buy more and more
every day. Just look at those features.
Also, it's only 47 lbs.

True, think it was named ASR or TSR, or something with 10, don't remember its name... That was somewhere around 1995.

You don't need a screen to play live on a masterkeyboard.

Maybe you`re right, but the thing is that I change patches a lot while playing so if somehow I got distracted maybe I`ll not know in what patch am I!!. Maybe that`s just me

OMG...I think it was the ASR 12.
I think it was the unit that replaced the SD-1.
Seems like ages ago.

MR-76 may have been the one you were thinking of, also, remember the TS12, I wanted one of those, they were great at the time... :)

this may be a weird option, but my roommate just bought this keyboard:
Yamaha DGX-300 (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=040428163337149159081160446361/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/700825/)
it's sort of a consumer level keyboard, but it has 76-weighted keys...and it has MIDI in/outs, so it could be used as a controller and it's only $400...i just thought of it cuz he just bought it
although, just as a note, the keys could be a tad heavier...but they're decent

I think there must be an Oberheim MC1000 with 76 keys weighted.
Deceit.

No, the Oberheim MC1000 says that it's unweighted on the 76-key one, but weighted on the 88 key one... http://www.turnkey.co.uk/tkweb/stockdetail.jsp?sku=OBER-MC100076&context=WEB
