don't bother - they're 2 totally different beasts - let us know what you want to DO with them and maybe we'll be able to help you out :)

Hi!

At the moment, i am recording the demos for you.
For the TR-Rack you need a PC to edit the sounds, you can't edit much on the device itself, basic thigns like cutoff and reso.
I use the TR-Racks presets because i don't have so much time editing the sounds.

Hi!

The TR-Rack came out 1997 and has 32 MB Sample ROM, 48 Khz Sampling Rate. The Kurzweil is a lot older. Never heard the Kurzweil though :(

Frank what do you mean with that?

I've owned a TR-Rack in the past, basically a Korg Trinity rack, this thing has some great sounds, I used it mainly for pads, leads, drums & basses. There's some nice guitar (both Electric and Acoustic) sounds and loads of synth stuff. The one thing this rack has not got is a good acoustic and electric piano sounds or realistic organ sounds. I reckon the K2000 will be a lot better, I have heard its sounds and the piano's are way better, also you can import samples and its a lot more flexible all round, even though the polyphony is slightly less than a TR-Rack (TR has 32 note polyphony - K2000 has 24 Note I think)....Its all down to what sounds are important to you, Piano's are a big thing for me.

Go for the Kurzweil - In fact as a rule Kurzweil sounds are superior to lots of sample based workstations with the exception of a Motif ES or the New Fantom, I like those sounds on these beasts a lot.

I'd check ebay...You're sure to get one at a decent price, well under a grand, but it might be an idea to indicate how much you would like to spend. Maybe guys here will have other ideas for you on what you should get for your money.

hm..to be honest, I'm going for TR...seems like a better choice..and won't take that much place as k2000...plus it's a lot cheaper and has better sounds....what do you think? :)

Well it is a very good synth, hopefully it will come with the Emagic Soundiver editor which is cool. As I said the Acoustic piano is o.k but nothing special, and you'll also get that Monster Lead patch which Derek Sherinian made famous back when he was in DT. You may want to check out the Roland XV5050, I've seen this coming down in price and is way more powerful than the TR-Rack, better sounds and has a built in USB interface with its own editing software.

Hey St0rMl0rD,

Sorry to get back to you so late.

I think that if you like what you've heard out of
JR's setup you'll get most of it out of the K2000.

The stock sounds may sound less than impressive
but if you go to Sweetwater Sound or Pro - Rec, they will
set you up with thousands of programs to update
your ROM set. Keep in mind, I'm not even talking
about samples yet which could be an option for you
later down the road. All you're missing is
KDFX and an extra 50% polyphony. I have some
of the old K2000 program disks from Sweetwater
and without resorting to tons of layering, they made
use of single layer programs and fattened them up
thus conserving on polyphony whether for sequencing
or performance.

Most of the TR-Raks Acoustic Pianos are crap. But there is this nice patch C00 "Soft Stereo Grand" which sounds very nice, not so plastic.
The Synth Sounds are awesome.
For me, the Organs and EPs are enough, i have a lot of fun with this device because it sounds so good.

um well...I'd really like have some really inspirational sounds like Karma has....I'd played that thing once and it really impressed me a lot....

If you have the time the GE's on the Karma and the included
editor will have you programming for a very long time.

My only complaint is that not all of the GE parameters are
clearly displayed so you kinda have to take each of the
four knobs and go by trial and error to see what does what.

so you're saying karma's sounds can be transferred to tr-rack?

Over The Edge

Oh, I'm sorry. The TR will not read the GE's.
It's the Triton Rack that will do that. My bad.
