What brand is that desk? I love how it has a rack mount built right into the desk!

If the forum would permit it, I'd jealously say "asshole", but I don't do things like that

Very cool, Brett. Primo Quality. I love your desk.

You are going to enjoy filling out that rack. I'd suggest starting with analog and digital patching. (A small analog patch bay, will help you change routings quickly.) Make it a modular environment for very little more. With the DSP in the gear you have you can fly to the moon.

Saw your posts at musicplayer, I'd love to hear from you, what you are discovering in that KSP8. And I'm looking forward to that CD, friend.

Best,

Jerry

The desk is a Studio RTA Producer's Station (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=040427081833216107121052920346/g=home/search/detail/base_id/111165). The quality is very nice. It comes packaged in two big boxes (one for the wood surfaces, the other for the black hardware), with very easy-to-assemble instructions. I found it to be the best solution for my current needs.

It isn't the PERFECT solution, but the idea of spending $2000+ on the Omnirax furniture (http://www.omnirax.com/site/show_product.asp?pid=15&cid=2) (which probably would be the perfect solution) was just out of the question. The top surface of this desk was designed to hold an 88-note keyboard, but they probably had in mind more of a slim-line keyboard such as a PC2X or S90 rather than a wider format workstation type like the K2600 or MotifES8. Still, the keyboard fits just about nicely, with just barely enough space to make the necessary connections: power, audio outs, SCSI, etc. The desk also has casters (wheels) for rolling it around so if I need to get to the back of it to change a connection or anything like that, I just roll it away from the wall and get behind it.

I started having fun with the KSP8 last night. I'm still having some issues figuring out how to get everything routed correctly so that I can record my K2600 into the PC, "audition" KSP8 effects with the K2600 sound, and also run recorded tracks back out to the KSP8 to be re-recorded with effects applied. I'm pretty sure it's possible, I just haven't worked all the details and signal flow out in my mind yet. I recorded a little clip last night of just playing through one of the KSP8 presets; I'll post it up later when I'm home.

Hey Brett,

Does the M-Lan feature come standard on the KSP8?

No, it doesn't. It's an upgrade/option.

mLAN is a very exciting prospect and I'm anxious to see what the future holds for it. It promises a lot of potential, even though it may be off to a seemingly slow start. You can read up on the latest mLAN news at www.mlancentral.com. Join the forums and read some of the discussions there. :)

My first choice for an audio interface was a Presonus Firestation, primarily because it was an mLAN product and I would eventually be able to interface it with my KSP8 if I got an mLAN card for it. However, upon ordering it, I find out a week later that the product has been discontinued and my order canceled. They still show it on their website, and mention nothing about it being discontinued. Instead, I got the MOTU 828mkII. The new Yamaha i88x looks nice, but too expensive for me, as well as coming out too late. :P

Wow, when did you get the KSP8?
Being a Kurzweil salesman obviously has it's priviledges. :P

Help me understand;
KDFX is 3 stereo fx and one global stereo fx?
KSP8 is 7 stereo fx with one global stereo fx?

I heard that it's twice as powerful as KDFX

Kurzweilfreak

Hey Rex. If you were on ICQ sometimes, then you'd have found out sooner. :P I got it sometime in February I think. Kurzweil was pretty fast in fulfilling their points redemptions this year. :D
I love my job. ;) I wouldn't drive 50 miles a day there and back if I didn't.

KDFX as it is in the K2500/K2600 is a 5 bus (4 FX + 1 Aux/Global) architecture. It has 4 Processing Allocation Units which are shared between the 4 busses. You can chain up to 4 FX blocks in a row, depending on PAU constraints.

KDFX as it is in the KSP8 is an 8 bus architecture. It has 16 U's (they call them U's in the KSP instead of PAU's  ), still divisible however you wish between the 8 busses. There is no Aux or Global bus, just 8 FX busses. It's more than twice as powerful as KDFX in the K25/26, IMHO. I'm gonna try to upload a clip I made with it somewhere. :)

Brett, I've heard the Firestation and I think it sounds great,
and the M-Lan feature is a plus. It also uses tubes which
makes for very warm tones.

The i88x, as was told to me by Mike Martin, has two
of the exact same mic pres. as are in their flagship
console, the DM2000, which sounds phenomenal!!!

I have to reinstall ICQ. I recently did a complete overhaul/clean reinstall OS.

Looking forward to some sound bites of the presets in the KSP8!
16U = 16 pau's now that is power! 8)

What do you use as librarian for your K2600XS?

I know that there are some librarians available for MACs but don't know any for PC.
:(

Kurzweilfreak

I don't. I've never needed to. The K2600 OS provides me with all the housekeeping functions I need. I've never really understood why anyone would need a librarian for a keyboard like this where the OS provides just about any function you could need.

If there was one thing I would like to use a librarian/patch editor for, it would be one that would let me set up Macros to automatically do what would normally take me a number of different button presses to do, just to make common edits much quicker, or so that I could store certain programming techniques like FUNs. :)
