It hurts!!!! Just to put a little pressure with the index finger there's a little pain in the metacarpal joint so playing octaves is even worse  . Anyone ever experienced this? And no, I do not play X-box games or any of those thumb controllers.

did you hurt it playing, did you fall, thumbed someone in the throat, samashed with a hammer, or did you just woke up with the pain, (I once sleeped over my index finger, hurted for a week)

lol! thumbed someone in the throat hehe. i thought of the music store when you said "samashed"

I've had this feeling too. It isn't constant but every now and then it comes and goes. I think it acts up whenever I spend a lot of time typing with my laptop. My hands, wrists and arms aren't always parallel when I type with the laptop. How long have you had this pain? Have you been typing a lot recently? Are you using proper keyboard technique? I know a lot of us focus hard on proper technique with keyboards and piano, but another thing to keep in mind is posture if we use the computer a lot. Since it requires us to keep our hands suspended and in a certain position, it might be a cause of some metacarpal pain if we have them in a bad position for a long period of time.

If you think this might be it, I know they do have special supports you can wear when using your computer. People use them when they need to type but have carpal tunnel or similar issues.

lol smashed

whenever i get pain in my hands is because either i hurt them falling or accidentally hitting something or intense manual labor, (seems like im alergic to manual labor)

No I did not hurt it playing, did not fall, thumbed someone in the throat, *smashed* with a hammer, and did not just woke up with the pain. AAMOF I try to take care of my hands as much as I can since I read the Keith Emerson article in keyboard mag a few years ago about hand injuries.
I try not to expose my hands to sudden temperature changes, I don't wash my hands after a gig or after I'd practiced a few hours for example, I wait till next morning and just use hand sanitizer when needed. Hmmm... what else? I havent typed that much. I don't practice thumb wrestling  . I use a Casio Privia digital piano for practice and the weighted action is very confortable. I'm guessing I probably started my practice routine without a proper warm up  Think i'll have to rest a week and see what happens.

yeah a while back i had pain in my arms and wrists. i took a week off as some here suggested and when i came back, i reevaluated the way i practice, and it has been a big help. hope that works for you too.
