Mixed feelings, still cool though.

The shape brings some sort of an aeroplane to my mind.
Still, looks good and sounds ok, it's nice to have some variety on the market.
But those electric cellos always give me the creeps.

A little odd looking. I prefer the look of a normal grand piano, but I don't mind the look of this one.

I'm all in favor of new piano designs, although it seems a little odd to play old music on them. Speaking of which, here's a link to the Schimmel Pegasus Piano (http://www.schimmel-piano.de/e/pegasus.html).

Wow! some of the designs on that page are crazy! I wonder why the traditional shapes were kept for so long... I'd love to try one of these things out; they look fantastic.. but how do they sound?

I think it looks kind of cool. But if you have one of those, you pretty much HAVE to be playing some crazy ass futuristic prog like Yes or ELP.
And come on, who WOULDNT want a piano that you can play Beethoven on in the morning, and in the afternoon strap a 100hp Mercury to it and take it water skiiing?
Shouldnt this be in gear talk though?

^^Damn right man  . I really prefer the Pegasus Grand from Richard's link to the M. Liminal though.
BTW it can fit in GC fine I think.

No, i think those designs will never catch on. They seem so... early XXI century  .

assasin, what's creepy about electric cellos?? I think they're pretty awesome & some electric cello music is long overdue... (admittedly, I am a cellist...)

I think this (http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~bluesnow/celli.jpg) pic explains my feelings. I don't have anything against the electric cello music itself, but some of them just look like raped versions of the originals. There are of course some ok-looking ones (http://www.musicroom.com/images/catalogue/fullsize/svc100k.jpg), but I still wonder, what would a concert piano, carved empty inside, but the frames still attached, look like? :)

lol, i see... I do like the second one actually... but that might just be b/c I'm used to the traditional cello... I think the "raped" ones are made more with the intent of playing while standing... just guessing though...
on a side note, when I think futuristic piano, the continuum (or its lack of "keys") comes to mind... I really feel like that's s the direction piano and keyboard instruments should go in... anyone else have any other ideas about that?

I think the Continuum is an awesome blending of keyboard and ribbon controllers in a very intuitive way. The new style of controller enables playing things live that would have been impossible before without the assistance of MIDI recording software (using pitch bend envelopes perhaps). However, while a Continuum-like control surface is awesome for some kinds of synth soloing, I can't imagine trying to play a Rachmaninoff prelude on one! I'm fairly certain that the traditional style of keyboard controller won't be going anywhere until no one is playing classical or classically-inspired styles of music any more.

There is only one word to describe that piano.
Delicious.

I thought it looked cool- but a bit like a giant Bath tub.

Now that's not that bad of an idea! I mean, how many times have I been taking a bath and a musical idea comes to mind? Countless times. If my bath tub was the piano, I could just hop out real quick, develop what I had in mind before I forget it, and then hop back in. :D
Any talented photoshoppers out there? ;)

jilechty, you might have a point... I don't really have the most extensive knowledge of the piano rep. and all the technique it takes to play it (piano/keyboard is my secondary instrument)
however, I think that it would probably be possible (though maybe more challenging) to do a lot of the stuff that piano requires, if not all of it... I wonder if maybe it would make some things easier by not having keys at different heights. I think it's unlikely that piano will go in this direction... but it would be really neat to see keyboards/synths go in this direction at some pt.
I'm a string player (cello & guitar family before that), so for me, the concept of a keyless keyboard fixes most of the things I don't like so much about piano... anyway, those are just my thoughts...

Eh...they look pretty cool and it would be fun to see one in person and even play on it...but I really still prefer the classic piano design...
