softsynth question

hi,

im sort of a beginner (in synth but i've been playing piano a long time), but i have a triton extreme 88 and im wondering what sort of softsynth is recommended for creating patches, editing, etc.? i have been looking at the nord modular g2 editor, which is a great visual editor but is only compatible with the nord modular g2. is cubase or reaktor the way to go?
