Omega Monkey sold me out! :) Especially when he showed us that link full of EX5 audio samples, i could really 'listen' to what he's been raving about all these time. It is really really great samples, and the cool thing is they name their patch to an artist or a tune, so we can have a clue to use the sound. Thanks dude!
I've been monitoring OZ ebay for a few months, but no luck with EX5, and i don't think any music shops in here would stock something that old.
Any clue?
It is very very hard to find gear in OZ alright. The best luck i ever had in searching for used gear was from my former piano teacher who was friends with the guys from George and the keyboardist from Human Nature who sold some of their gear to him. So if you know anyone who knows someone.... also try second hand shops, they might not realise its value.

Uh oh, youve got EX Fever now!. I'd say your main recourse would be to expand your search to other ebay regions, preferably ones with the same electrical system as what you use. Of couse you can always get a voltage converter too.
Good luck in your search and try to find one with flash ram and scsi if you want to use your own samples.

Asho - Thanks for the reply mate, yeah it's bloody frustrating to find gears in OZ. The new ones have prices that has been marked up to death, or you can find something on ebay once in a blue moon...
I'm probably just gonna get Triton Extreme 76 for $4400 since i want a 76 keys controller, then i can start playing with Prominy's LPM Electric Distortion heheh..
OmegaMonkey - Yeah, because of you dude!! :P I researched world's list of voltage settings on every countries, and Australia is picking a non universal ones with three plugs, one for ground. There's no other countries using the same plus as us, with 230V 50ohm

$4400 for a Triton 76? Holy crap! Even with the exchange rate that is a hell of a lot! Even a LOADED EX5 (keyboard version) off ebay.com would be maybe $1100 max (so like $1500 or so AUD). Just to give you an idea, I shipped a preamp to Japan recently, and it was like $100. The preamp was like 30 lbs which is about half of what the EX5 weighs. So it might be in the range of $250-$300USD for shipping. Then Im sure you could find a voltage adaptor for probably not more than another couple hundred. So all in all you could get the EX5 for like $2K aussie. Just an idea.
$4400 for a Triton 76? Holy crap!
Gotta love Australia.... sales rep for Korg gave me a quote for a Triton 88 Extreme, $5990, and i can remember at the begin of 2005 they were nearly 7 grand.

You too? yeah when I first inquired at my music store I thought they were trying to rip me off big time when they said "over $5000 for a triton." I had a look at buying from an online store based in America once and even with shipping and import tax I think a Fusion 8hd would have come to about $2000 which is a saving of $1500 (unless I missed out on some other tax)

That shit is just inexcuseable. You could FLY to the US, pick up a Triton in a store and fly back with it and it would be about the same, and you get a little vacation out of it.

seriusly
why are so expensive over there? is not like there made on the other side of the world  (No Pun intended) there made a litlle up an to tle left, is all the added cost tax ?
You too?
Yep, me too. I think its the market, i mean theres not the demanded i guess so therefore this kind of equipment is at a premium.
I was very lucky to get the S90 at the price i did (nearly a 25% discount!)
Also noticed that used gear seems exceptionally high too. I mean you can find a bargin on ebay, but then you see a S80 selling for $1300 AUD...
REALLY wish gear was cheaper. Upside is there arent many keyboardists.
BTW i havent even seen any Alesis models in Australia yet... i intend to go browsing through some good retailers when i head upto Brisbane for G3 (hell yeh!)

Omega Monkey - I did a research on the net about importing keys from overseas. I think at the end of the day, the final price is almost the same with local price, for just about everything. I've asked Sweetwater for shipping cost of Triton Extreme 76 to Australia, and they said it's USD$250. Then there's the ugly import tax that plays a big part on the final price. Apparently the government wants 40% import tax for any electronic products, including synthesizers of course.
Triton Extreme 76: USD1900 = AUD2477
Shipping to OZ: USD250 = AUD325
Import Tax: 40% out of USD1900 = AUD1000
Voltage converter: ? (and i don't know the safety of these things)
see what i mean?

Thats still way cheaper than $4400 though. im sure if you get a good quality voltage converter it will be plenty safe and I cant imagine it would be more than a couple hundred (if that much).

I just did some poking around and found a whole line of step down transformers that will convert 230v to 110-120v starting at about $20 and going all the way up to $400. I think the main difference is in the wattage rating, Im guessing for your needs you would be looking in the $50-$100 range and then you could probably run a whole slew of American gear if you wanted.

OmegaMonkey - Thanks for the 'poke' man.. I guess step down transformer is safe enough to use huh?
Guys... don't forget.. there's gonna be a JP & La Rue clinic! I'm still watching since Sydney's venue hasn't been announced... I'll be going to the G3 gig as well, unfortunately can't go to Yngwie's ones... it'll be great to see Derek again & Yngwie...
Is there gonna be a clinic in Brisbane? I thought it was only in sydney?
