Hello fello fellow composers,

I was thinking about adding a new keyboard to my studio. Does anyone have any experience with the Kurzweil K2661?

Is it a better keyboard than the K2600?

Pros

It uses a smart media card for storage.
It has an ADAT output.
Light enough to carry to a gig by yourself.

Cons

It does not have the long ribbon controller as on the 2600.
There is presently no option for sampling.

NO 88 KEYS TOO!!!
That's why I'd have to pick the K2600X.

I'm not sure that Smart Media is a pro; it's very difficult to find, and capacities are quite limited. Everyone should just use CompactFlash (or Secure Digital if size is important), because CF and SD are abundant and under active development.

But who am I to be talking, when I look at my lust - a keyboard with a floppy drive.

Not having 88 keys is not a big thing if you already own a keyboard with a piano-style keybed - it's no big thing to MIDI them together.

Smart Media isn't THAT bad, IMO - if nothing else, it's very cheap, which makes up for its lack of size.

AND you can buy the additional long ribbon like I did. I taped it on my unit with some velcostraps. It sits rock solid right under the display and works fine
I like my K2661, it's heavy used in the last two years.
