It's amazing what you find at the manufacturer's website.

Take all the documents print them out and have them near your keyboard. Mainly the Patch and Waveform lists, they help when your building Patchs from scratch or new Performances.
You've got some great patches in that board right now. Check out
Int 4, 6, 10, 38, 47, 54, 65, 78, 110. I have all those patches on my XV and they're all great. I used the stock Purple Spin tone for 3 songs on my bands CD and we continue to use it for new material.
Your board will accept 4 SRJV 80 cards.
I have 2 in my XV, SRJV02 - ORCH 1 and SRJV04 - Vintage Synth.
Orch 1 gives all different orchestral instruments
Vintage Synth has lots of lead type sounds and many good waveforms for building your own leads.
Check out all the cards they have to offer.

There are lots of tones out there that will work with your board because its based off the JV structure. Look at various sites for JV tones and you will find some stuff.
Also for live performances you will want to start using Performance mode vs Patch mode. Perf mode allows you to split and layer up to 16 patches or just have them enabled via midi but not on through the board.

Purple Spin is a great patch.

Yeah Purple Spin is the tone to use live when the guitarist is soloing in a song. Its heavy and distored enough so the heavy feel of tone doesnt go away.
Of course 95% of the guitarists would tell you to put a choir tone under the guitar solos lol.

That or a B3. Especially the Deep Purple fans :)

The XP-80 is older than the XP-30, isn't it?
I also have all those patches you're talking about :)
Purple Spin is THE reason I bought my JV-1010. I layer it with organ2 tweaked up to be a tad more bright and percussive with touch sensitivity and another custom tone loosely based off Emerson's tones. Killer patch.
I too did not get a manual (or cd) with it and I sometimes regret not knowing how the hell to get the most out of it. Roland Customer support basically was of no help, but that was a couple years ago.

Hi again and thanks for the info!!! New info needed :)))
* How can I assign a controller pedal switch for the xp80 to step up the "patches" and "performances" as Jordan does with his Kurz?
* Does anybody own JV expansion board for "piano" sounds? Do you recommend it, 'cuz the factory built piano patches are not OK!
Thanx for now!
