I REALLY want a K2600XS, but I just don't have the cash ...
So I'm looking at either a Motif ES or a Triton LE, 88 keys either way. I'm interested in playing DT-Rudess-ish type things, but of course still want to practice classical pieces. Which one?!! They're both highly recommended by people on the boards.

I'd say go for the ES, because the action is better. Plus, it can have more sample ram. Also, the ES has more effects than the LE, and the piano is better.

Ha. Now to just save the cash. At least I have a regular upright piano to practice on in the meanwhile.

Let's see, you can buy the Triton and sound like EVERYBODY else (imagine your dismay when you hear the keystone sound of your newest prog epic on the latest hip hop vid on eMpTyV!) or, you can go with the Motif and have a chance of having your own sound.
Of course, I have really been lusting after some quality Yamaha gear (to supplant my ancient mystical FB-01), so I may be a bit partial.
Lets take a quick look at Yamaha's track record:
GX-1
CS-80
DX-7
VL-1
SY-99
Motif 8
There you have it, some of the most bad-assed and important synths of the last 30 years, played by some of the best players (Chick Corea, Eddie Jobson, Stevie Wonder, etc...) in the business.
Of course Korg has had some amazing stuff too, but I dont think its their time right now as much as it is Yamaha's.

I have to agree with everyone on the MOTIF. It has some great preset tones.
Omega Monkey you make it seem like Korg never had a good track record.

If you know how to edit tones and know synthesis you can make a Casio sound good, so I dont think the Motif is going to be able to make a plethora of "new" sounds that you couldnt make on another synth, add MOSS to the equation and your going to get a lot more out of the Korgs.

I don't think you can put moss into a le 88, could be wrong.
Also, does anyone know the price differences between the two approx, as I am also looking for a new board and am split between the two, although I have only got to test out the LE thus far.

JackJens...wouldn't it be so cool if Yamaha developed
an Orch. PLG?

just curious, if it were between the LE and the regular motif would everyone still go with the motif?

An Orchestral PLG would be so interesting......
I hope Yamaha is going to present some new PLGs in the future !

The original Motif seems like a different synth altogether
from the ES series. That's how much revamping had
been done. Probably the the Motif over the LE, anyway then.

the motif ES is newer and it's a full synth, not a dumbed-down version of the real thing. the triton LE is cool, but you don't get the touch screen, which is such an awesome feature of the triton series (yeah i know that doesn't effec the sound but...asdf;lkj...i like it). even though i'm a triton advocate, give those options i'd pick the motif ES probably. although the triton LE is probably lighter to carry around and that's something to consider, too.
