The Moog Voyager:

Does anyone own one?

Are you happy with it?

Would you recommend it?

I have an old Model D. Replies appreciated.

I own one - and I absolutely love it!!! The sound of true analog is so incredible in today's world of virtual and sampled synths. Of course, you already know that since you own an original MiniMoog D.

Being able to call up patches on an analog synth is very useful. In addition, the touch pad is a nice controller and the display is a good tool for seeing your edits to different controllers. The other advantage over the original MiniMoog is tuning stability. Although I will admit that it's the first thing I power up on gigs and sessions as it does take 15-30 minutes to be completely stable and in tune.

As for direct sonic comparisons with the original D, I cannot speak to that since I don't have a D to compare it to. From what I've heard, some Ds sound better than others. I have also heard that Bob Moog did a solid job recreating the sonic magic of the D in the Voyager.

I highly recommend the instrument - good luck!

ive had my Voyager for about 2 months now and I love it! Like PM said its much more stable than a Model D but it still takes some time to warm up and get the Osc in sync. Mine is version 2.5 but I think I want to update it soon.

I'll say this, its still not as thick as a D is (obviously depending on the SN you have). In some respects my Prodigy sounds a little fatter. Nothing sounds like a Mini, it just takes on a warmth that cant be duplicated. Sure some programs and VA can emulate it very well but the Moog just comes into its own in live situations. the midi imputs are great, i run it to my controller and have a 61 note Moog!

I wouldnt buy a new one though, I saved over $1000 on ebay for my electric blue vs the cost of a new one.

I absolutely love my Voyager.

With it I finally have that classic sound I've grown to love
since I was a little kid.

It's so much better than the original Minimoog in that it is capable
of storing presets and the membrane pad allows you to program
some really wicked modulation parameters.

On my new record, I did a solo that I'm so proud of to
a tune called A Dog and his Boy. When I wrote the tune
I already had it in mind that I was going to create my own
"legendary" solo in the way that we still look at KE's Lucky Man
solo many years later. I basically wrote the tune specifically
around the Moog.

That's how much I love the instrument.
