Hello again, I have a rather large problem.

I picked A Love Dream (Liebestraum by Liszt) for my audition at the 5 week in Berklee, but I've just noticed something. There are almost impossible chords in the beggining of the piece (dunno about the rest, because I haven't checked). An example is a chord that instead of being an octave, its an 11th! : /

The chord is 2 notes played by the left hand, C and G, looking a bit like this, the caps letters are the ones being played.

a b "C" d e f g a b c d e f "G" a

I can play the 10ths, but this one is impossible for me. I also noticed that there is a "squiggly line" (something I've never seen in sheet music) to the left of that chord. What does it mean? It doesnt have an arrow pointing anywhere as sheet music for guitars have when they want you to strum the strings in a certain direction. I also can't play the top most note with my right hand since it needs to play a different note. My only solution would be to play the "C" an octave higher...

Can't help you much but the squiggly line next to a chord just means that you break up the chord and play the notes successively and quickly.

Thanks, that's what I thought it meant.

Play the C, hold the sustain pedal, move your hand a bit to reach to G. That's what conservatory teachers would say to people who can't reach that far or who have small hands....

Small hands? I reaaally don't see how a C1 to to G2 could be played with one hand. Maybe I have small hands then.

I dont that even fairly large hands could reach that....

Id say C1 to C2 comfortably is average sized hands. Most of the keyboardist I know can reach C1 to D2. C1 to E2 comfortably starts to become large hands.

C1 to G2 is just giant. lol.

Awesome I have large hands! you know what they say: large hands, large... gloves.

when I was a kid I always used to worry that my hands weren't big enough and when I got into harder peices I wouldn't be able to play them properly and that all of my practice would be useless because of my hand size.

Capacity to play octaves is probably standard for piano playing, anything over a 10th is standard for having large hands or knowing how to do a proper roll. ;)
