Strictly out of curiosity...

I saw that Kurzweil has released the K2661 but that there's no 88-key version. The 88-key K2600 that Rudess plays came out in 98, right? So when could we expect Kurzweil to release an updated 88-key model?

Kurzweil has decided to build onyl the 61 key version!
There will never be a bigger one!

Heh, so you're saying Kurzweil will never offer another high end 88 key keyboard? :)

I'm still waiting for the new Kurz VA.
That's going to rock for sure.

There will not be an 88-key version of the K2661, i.e. K2688 or whatever other fictional name people have created rumors about. The K2661 is the last of the K2600 line, from what I understand.

I also can't wait for the VA-1, whatever it will finally end up being called. Anyone have name ideas for the VA-1 synth?
 From what I hear, Kurzweil is open to naming suggestions on it.

So does the VA-1 "do everything" the K26xx does?

Nope. Totally different animal.

It's a virtual analog synth (hence the temporary name, VA-1). 16 note polyphony, 4 part multitimbral.

Unlike other VA synths out there, the VA-1 will sport some incredible effects, one of the largest differences between it and everything else out there, IMHO. Each multitimbral part will have it's own KDFX/KSP8-based effect bus, with a dedicated 2 PAU's of power per part (NOT sharable between busses as with KDFX).

Apparently contains a "Live Mode" external signal processing feature, as well as a 40 band vocoder. Audio input consists of a stereo mic preamp with phantom power.

Also one of the only VA synths I'm aware of that will have digital output, selectable as 8 channel Adat or SPDIF.

This is the first instrument to use Kurzweil's newly developed proprietary DSP chip. Perhaps the VA-1 is a glimpse of the future to come...

Definitely not a K2x00 clone, with the exception of maybe some of the filter and distortion algorithms, such as the Deform section which will contain Ringmods and Shapers ala VAST. Holy crap, I just read:

Filters: The VA1’s dual filters can be arranged in series of parallel configuration and offer a broad selection of filter types. Minimoog style 4 pole resonant lo-pass with feedback  , 2 and 4 pole lo-pass and hi-pass, bandpass, and notch are among the many available filter algorithms.

There are so many controller features that would enable you to access the sound elements
(filt, osc's, env's, etc.) very quickly.
Soundwise, I heard some very authentic
'analog' at NAMM. I'm very impressed and yet
it was only about 80% complete.

I'm waiting for the new Kurzweil flagship, like k3000. Which won't be the name, because a software program is already called that way. But you know what I mean.

I guess that's what I was getting at. If the K2600 came out in 1998, when are we due for a new flagship model?

Just the glimpses of what we're getting with the VA-1, the 2661, etc.. I'm not even going to imagine what they're going to come out with for another flagship synth. I suspect however that it MAY be their last if it isn't THE single most incredible synth in existence...
My wishlist:
Sliders AND Knobs
Ribbon *OR TWO*
Joystick... as well as wheels...
I'll continue later, I'm in the middle of getting ready for bed :D

I have been waiting for a higher polyphony successor to the K2600?

The K2661 is great for a lighter gigging synth and no doubt it sounds amazing but it's not what I want, ditto for The VA-1

I'll probably just break down and finally buy a K2600x and load it up.
