hello again.. i am considering buying a new live setup and after many hours searching this forum ive deciden on my own PA and some speakers and then sell my amp. what i am looking at buying is this - http://www.dmaudio.co.uk/emx640.html
and a set of these - http://www.questaudio.net/products/qs_250.shtml
do any of you have any experience with these particular items?
im getting the amp second hand and one of the speakers new from a music shop for $800 AUS (about $611 USD) good deal??
but the thing i wanted to ask is about what the salesman told me, he reckons that the yamaha amp and one of those speakers would blow my current amp away (a behringer KX1200, one 15" one 5" and a tweeter)
now, i cant see why one 12" and a tweeter would be better than one 15" one 5" and a tweeter? i thought the more air being pushed, the better? or is it about the wattage? thanks for any replies!

I doubt it would "blow it away" soundwise. Maybe featurewise and you might have more headroom, but you wont really be able to use that headroom with only 1 (smaller) cabinet. Definitely go for 2 cabinets. Trust me you will want stereo anyway. With 2 cabinets, if those are any good will probably away your old setup in most ways except for low end (although that shouldnt be very significant) and MAYBE midrange smoothness (which depends on the quality of the Behringer and the quality of these Quest speakers), due to the old setup being 3 way as opposed to 2 way.

The best way to figure all this out is take your amp down to this shop, and do an A/B comparison (you might have to bring your keyboard too I guess). I would doubt though that the 1 cabinet setup would be as loud as your old amp.

hey thanks i was thinking about trying them out in the shop compared to my amp aswell. do you think that the PA and two of those speakers would be adequate for medium sized gigs over drums and my guitarists' marshal stack? or would i need a set of 15's? thanks again.

I think 15s would be better in the long run, especially if you do loud rock stuff or if you use a lot of "electronica" type sounds with a lot of low end. If you were doing like jazz and acoustic stuff then the 12s would probably be fine. The thing about amplifaction, you can always turn a bigger PA DOWN, but you can never make a smaller one perform as more than it is. So its better to go too big than too small. JBL makes a very nice 15" cabinet that you can find on ebay sometimes pretty cheap (I saw a pair a while ago for like $300).
