Yepp, that's my question. It looks like it's on its way out of the shops. Should I buy it now, or will Muse Research release something better soon? What do you guys think?

how could it be outdated? It can operate every VST on the market today. What could they add to it to make it better (short of a faster proc and more ram to be able to control more synths)?.
My guess is that the only reason that it seems that it might be "on it's way out" is that it's a bit boutique-ish and not a lot of people are buying it. I know no-one that has one or uses one live (or even wants one, frankly). Everyone I know that uses VST instruments uses a laptop. You can buy a basic laptop and Audio interface for about 2/3 of the price of the Receptor. Something that. Either way you still have to buy the softsynths on top of the hardware. And as long as you have a clue about maintaining a PC and using your laptop for music only, it's just as stable.

I get your point, but when it comes to the price, some months ago the shops here suddenly reduced the price 42,5 % of what it used to cost. That will make the receptor cheaper than most laptops. But I don't know, maybe I'll just get the laptop;).

And don't forget the fact that many people don't actually buy softsynths, they just download it...:S
Peace out,

Not neccessarily illegally either. The vast majority of VSTs and VSTis that I use are freeware, and they sound great. Honestly, there are hundreds of quality soft synths out there that don't cost a cent, and with the flexible layering/routing capabilities of most hosts (like brainspawn's forte which I'm demoing at the moment) you can build up a monster rig without a single commercial vsti. I love it

DVD players are ten times cheaper than when they first came out. It's a marketing strategy used to get costs back quicker ;)
