Hi,

She's finding Cubase really REALLY annoying, as it's impossible to queue up a list of synths, and cycle through them, and also you must re-map the output every time you change! What software can do this?

I use Brainspawn's Forte Ensemble, latest version 1.5. Download demo at www.brainspawn.com. Although it may crash while setting everything up a couple of times, it is really stable while performing.

Peace out,

It is possible to cycle through the VSTs on Cubase. Two ways to do this:

1. create multiple MIDI tracks, assign the instruments, and give each their own channel. Have all the tracks selected, and change the channel your keyboard is outputting to use a different instrument. (If this isn't possible, or easy, then see the next one.)

2. again, make multiple MIDI tracks, and assign an instrument to each. Channel won't matter here, just make sure they're all the the one your keyboard is outputting, or "any channel". The track you have selected will be the one that responds to your MIDI input, as long as you have Cubase set up to monitor/record-enable the selected track. It's a matter of using the arrow keys on your computer keyboard, or clicking the appropriate track.

Cheers guys - the cubase tracks will be the best option, then you can save a project per song :D

Also - The keyboard has some cracking on-board piano sounds (Kawai ES4), and how would one go about switching from VST instruments coming from the computer to the piano sounds, and cancelling the previous one, so not as to have a piano going with a distorted sawtooth lol! an A/B switch?

turn "Local Control" of your Kawai off and control the patch changes and the midi routing from Cubase. Whenever you want to play the piano, loop the midi data back into your board. This will require both a MIDI out and MIDI in connected on your board.

Cool. Much simpler to stand on a foot-pedal and change the routing of two audio signals?!

Oh I'm in trouble! Just found out that the Kawai she's buying has ONBOARD USB lol....so now the USB->MIDI has become defunct. Whoops.
