i just checked out the roland site for the vp-550...pretty cool, hadn't even heard of it. i wonder if jordan will really do a jazz album next? it seems like he has some pretty hot jazz chops!

it's an interesting little board. does anyone know how different it is from the vocal designer expansion that was released for the V-synth rack version? does anyone know also if you can use it as a vocodor for external sounds? or can you only use the sounds built on the board. for example, if i had a real cool synth sound i wanted to power with a vocoder, could you do it with this? that'd be sweet.

Awesome.

I think Ive only heard 1 Corea track with vocoder though. Herbie used it a LOT in the late 70s and mid 80s though. On Sunlight and Feets Dont Fail Me Now, ALL the vocals were done by Herbie on the vocoder. Then he would even do keyboard solos and comping with it which sounded pretty cool, especially on the end of I Thought It Was You. He has a cool Rhodes solo and overdubbed on top of that Herbie is basically playing a horn chart with the vocoder. Sounds really awesome (plus theres an ACTUAL horn section too).

i just thought abou this...

dream theater could do some really cool Queen covers with this thing! With all the cool background vocals being played by Jordan and this instrument. It might be a difficult thing to have the piano parts in at the same time too if Jordan has to play them both, but I'm sure there is a way to work it out. I saw a demo of the V-Synth vocal analyzer thing and one of the things he played and sang was "Is this the reeeeal life?....is this just fantasy..." . That would be a cool thing to do at a live show. What do you think?

I know this thread is old, but the talk about his new album reminded me of this and i think this is the video that made some people assume the style of the new album.

PS. I hope those vids end with the weird JR trademark look like the MOTU vids because I can never help laughing when watcing those :tongue:
