Hey guys,

I'm going to audition next saturday (may 6th) for a spot in the Berklee in Puerto Rico 2006 workshop. Only 100 will be accepted and I need a really impressive piece that I can learn for the audition. If anyone has any cool recommendations, please let me know anything at all that would help me out, since I have to make up for not being able to read music on the spot, which they will test.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: I forgot to mention that the piece shouldn't be longer than 3 or 4 minutes. Thats what they usually ask for.

Play an exerpt from Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" maybe.

Im assuming that it can be from any genre, so if you can play Lieberstraum (good romantic era peice) or maybe a Bach prelude and fugue maybe they will do?

I'd probably stick with something "upbeat". Dream of love may be a little too mellow...although...a very nice piece.

Thanks for the help guys,

I'm looking for MIDI files of each of the ones you suggested and they're sounded great. I was thinking of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata No. 14, Op. 27 No. 2 (the fast one.) I'm not sure if that's overdoing it though... Any thought's on that?

Third movement of hte moonlight sonata would be good...what genre are you looking specifically to play and what are other pieces you have played before?

Dont you have any idea as to what they are looking for? You really need to prepare for this sort of thing. You dont wanna embarass yourself right?

Eheh, I'm starting to get a bit nervous because I realized theres no way I can set up any kind of impressive piece in less than a week. I have the grading sheet here and there are 3 points, which interestingly enough dont involve any playing of a piece. Just says:

How much is he capable of reading?

3: advanced 2: intermediate 1: Begginner/No knowledge

How much does he know of music theory?

3: Adv 2: Int 1: Beg/No Knowl.

How well can he improvise?

3: Adv 2: Int: 1:Beg/No Knowl.

So I'm a bit confused. If I dont have to play a piece, thats perfect. But the whole sight-reading thing will be a mess. I'm not even sure if I can get at least a number 2 on any of them...

We'll see, I have to call them monday.
