I remember a while back someone (Scrap maybe?) posted a few programming tips on the Karma. One of them was directions on how to do smooth patch switching with the karma, but I can't remember what it was. Anyone remember or have the link where I can find that?

Smooth patch changing? As in the sound not cutting off?
It's not possible.

Changing from patch to patch WITH the sound cutting off
is accomplished by going to the GLOBAL section...
finding the controller section, going to footswitch and
changing its function to + inc.

That's what I thought, but I could have swore there was a post about smooth changing, but if it can't be done, it can't be done.

It is possible via switching MIDI channels in sequencer mode as well as setting up identical IFX/MFX configurations in Program mode.

Edit: here's a sample (http://www.reprehensible.net/~scrap/patchchange.mp3) using the Program Mode IFX/MFX trick.

It would be really cool if they made a synth that would morph between patches. Does anyone know of anything like this? The way im envisioning it, it would be like portamento for sounds rather than pitches. Could be really cool. I suppose if you had a sophisticated enough sequencer, you could do it, but you'd have to program the whole thing by hand! The only problem I'm seeing with it, is that some envelope differences could cause glitches or just cause the sound to stop (likw if you switch to a sound with no sustain).

That sort of stuff is most common in Virtual Analog land. Since all parameters are numerical and there is no sample data.

The Yamaha AN1X morphs between scenes (each scene is a mono-timbral patch). So do the Nords, but they are multi-variable morphs as opposed to inter-patch morphs. (You can stack as many variables as you like, but it takes imagination to think through the start point, end point and trajectory.)

With the Yammie, you can take an epiano and morph into a Brass Blip. The limitations are in the stepping you get (for pitch and waveshape primarily). So in practice it's most gentle between two patches which have the same oscillator pitches and waveforms. Still a lot of room to play with different envelopes, FM and Sync. And then there are the un-gentle applications.

The nord modular offers four morph groups. I think the number of variables in each morph is unlimited. It's smooth. Takes more work to setup than the Yammie, though. On the An1X, you simply paste a patch into one scene, paste a patch into another scene, then activate the morph botton and slide that mod wheel ....
