Alright, first of all the setlist for those of you who may not have seen it:
Intro Tape
The Root of All Evil
I Walk Beside You
Another Won
Afterlife
Under A Glass Moon
Innocence Faded
Raise the Knife
The Spirit Carries On
--Intermission--
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (w/orchestra)
I. Overture
II. About To Crash
III. War Inside My Head
IV. Test That Stumped Them All
V. Goodnight Kiss
VI. Solitary Shell
VII. About To Crash (reprise)
VIII. Losing Time/Grand Finale
Vacant (w/ orchestra)
The Answers Lie Within (w/ orchestra)
Sacrificed Sons (w/ orchestra)
Octavarium (w/ orchestra)
Encore:
Metropolis Pt. 1 (w/ orchestra)
Let me just say that, this concert was one of the best live experiences I have ever had. The setlist was amazing - Innocence Faded, Raise The Knife, 6DOIT, Metropolis, fucking ORCHESTRA!!
I mean seriously, how awesome is that? I know a lot of people are going "wahh we wanted something different" but shut up, you know how amazing this show was and how spot-on everything was?
I want to applaud every single member of Dream Theater for their performance last night. My brother, friend, and I were fortunate enough to be in the Pit, AAA 23-25 (Jordan side, Jordan maybe you saw us...) and it was the most intense experience. I kept looking around Radio City and seeing the mass of dedicated fans there and the band deserves the most amazing round of applause ever.
Let me also say that on top of all the wonderful playing that went on, James' voice was top notch, never missed a note, and just kept going and going. Jordan's solos and continuum playing were phenomenal, Myung's bass solo in Metropolis was a sight to behold, John's Under A Glass Moon solo (and in general) was great, and the drums were just rocking, thanks Portnoy.
Thank you to Dream Theater for an amazing "wet dream" setlist, an amazing night, an amazing 20 years of music, and hopefully 20 more years of music to come. You guys definitely made it worth every fan's trek to Radio Music City Hall!
Thanks :)

Im sure the orchestra was cool, but frankly, that setlist leaves a lot to be desired.
I think if DT are going to insist on only playing songs that havent been on previous DVDs when they do DVD shoots, then they should shoot over 2 consecutive nights and split up the "classics" and the "we have to play this for the DVD" songs between each night.
I feel like they just threw some of their weaker songs (Innocence Faded? *falls asleep on keyboard*) in there because they hadnt been on a DVD yet and they "had" to play something from each album (although technically they didnt). If I had been there, I would have gladly forgone a good half or more of the first set just for Lines In The Sand and Blind Faith (2 of their very best songs which HAVENT been on a dvd yet).
Before I was really anxious to get the DVD, but now I am mostly just curious to hear the orchestra.

I agree with Omega Monkey 100%. Everybody seems in love with the setlist but I think it could have been a lot cooler, especially for a 20th anniversary gig...

While I agree that there could have been other songs...personally I would have killed to have seen Blind Faith, Take the Time, Lines in the Sand or any of these songs live, I realized that with the way things at RCMH were, that it may not have been feasible. That second half is huge, and the fact that RCMH requires you to be done by 11pm doesn't let them do a huge show like they did for LSFNY...that being said - I'm sure they will play those songs live again at some point and the next dvd they do (when/if) they do it and whatever happens in the future it will be somehow different. That still doesn't dismiss the performance of the music - it was flawless, energetic, I've never heard Dream Theater this good live or on bootleg audio recordings of their live shows, and the concensus seems the same.
The first half flowed really nicely and kind of had this thing where you really didn't know what to expect...Raise the Knife was a welcome surprise, but I guess it's up to a personal choice, I'm not going to argue (check out the mp forum to see the thread wars over there)...I don't know if any of you were at the show, but I think it may have been different being able to hear them play all that live...and with that being said again - the dvd will definitely be worth it for the second half for those of you who felt the first half had a lot to be desired.

Hey, everybody has personal favorites.........
But from what I see, DT played an unique event WITH ORCHESTRA!!!!
Next time you will hear your favorite song, but for now be glad they did this.
Let's keep the topic super positive for at least one page full.
Or maybe we're all just jealous that we weren't there :)
Why do I have to think about "Never Enough" right now?

I agree with Emeric - it was a legendary performance. I've seen DT several times and they have never appeared so inspired!
Unfortunately I didn't get the premium seats that Emeric had. I was in the "nose-bleed" seats of the third tier. But the show was every bit as incredible up there as well. I also noticed how good James sounded, both at Radio City and a few nights earlier in Wallingford. He is improving with age, like most of us.
As for the set list - kudos to DT for having so many incredible compositions to choose from. That's a problem that very few bands have. AFAIC, every note I heard Sat night was pleasurable - and that's a lot of fucking notes!!

LOL!
Honestly, I would rather scrap the orchestra and get more of their great songs. What good is the orchestra if they play a lot of their weakest stuff with it? I mean, I would go see Yes with an orchestra if they only played Union.
Also, some people have talked about the "curfew", but then, why didnt they just start half and hour or an hour earlier to ensure they had enough time to fit everything in, and maybe squeeze in some of the longer (better) songs, like LITS or Blind Faith.
If I were Jordan I would be petitioning the guys (well, Mike I guess mostly) to be doing Blind Faith a LOT more (theyve played it what, like 3 times if that in 4 years?) since that is one of their greatest songs, and also a great showcase for the best of Jordans talents. That whole piano, into piano and strings, into choir, into badass organ solo, into badass synth solo is just so, well, badass! Also, that song would've been huge with the orchestra!

Yeah..I think the whole idea of playing Six degrees.......disc 2..was not too right...It was a 20th anniversary not a six degrees....tour...they limited to some of the newies instead of going with the old but good!

You cant get much cooler than playing Another Won, can you? plus Raise The Knife.
jeez.....DT just cant make message boarders happy.....
The show sounds like it was cool.
Dream Theater playes a lot of songs at there shows. And there sets always seem good. What is the problem? Maybe the day when you could hire DT to do a show. Maybe you could get them to play the exact songs you want to hear.
I mean an orchestra on Six degrees and Octavarium. Thats like 70 minutes plus the other songs they did. But I guess the second set has been overshadowed by the "poorly chosen" first set.

maybe they should have played "never enough" and put the lyrics at the bottom like a sing-along so some of you people would get the message of that song. i think once this gets released a lot of people will be singing its praises for being one of the most unique dream theater videos ever. the first set list has some awesome songs--sure, they can't always get everyone's favorites, but they're putting out a really unique concert experience for fans everywhere to enjoy. why slam it before even seeing it? everything really never is enough.
