In my ears it's only a simple pulse/square wave sound.

Yup, along with some onboard FX from his Jp-8000.

The lead sound he's used since Twilight On Olympus is a preset sound on the Roland JP-8000. The two oscillators are synched which is what gives it that signature moving sound.

I got to play it at Prog Power 1 when I was helping the stage guys setup his gear.
