Hi there.I've spent all these years learning about guitar woods, trems bla bla. Now while I was doing all this the keyboard area has advanced so much I don't know were to start?
So I'd like to get an 88 key range & a led wipey thing plus a pitcher bendy bar?
Oh & a wha type thing if poss.
I know sit sounds a lot but half the keyboards out there have these things on anyway.
So really what I'm asking is...what are my option. There's so many out there. I've looked at Roland,Korg, the list goes on.
Any idea's?
What's a good price?
As you know I'm on this sight so you know the type of music this keyboard has to be able to perform.
I's got my eye on a Kurzweil SP 88. Any good? Old gear?

first of all the SP88 it's a stage piano (electric piano) it only has 32 sounds on board and it's not a synth so it's not your better option it's great to play piano stuff...you should be pointing to the big "names" like motif, fantom or an extreme...
88 all have full piano actions. My pick is the Motif ES8, but its a rompler. If you dont want a rompler get a K2600. Im not a big fan of Korg or Roland anymore.

Uh, the K2600 is a rompler too.
If you want the best and can afford it, I would go with either the Motif ES8 or the Fantom X8. Both have their advantages over the other. The Motifs main advantage is you can get various expansion cards which serve different functions and basically add a new synth (you can get cards for FM, virtual analog, physical modeling, etc...), and also polyphony (ie you can play more notes) and more effects. The Fantom has sample pads (useful for triggering samples while playing, as well as programming drum tracks, etc...), the d-beam (a pretty cool control device), and also has expansion cards, but they only add samples, not new types of synthesis. On top of that it has a very cool piano mode with some very realistic pianos (acoustic and electric).

88 all have full piano actions.
That's true 99% of the time, but the Roland RS-9 had a synth-action 88 key keyboard.

And M-Audio's "weighted" keyboards are not hammer action. They feel weighted, but not at all like a piano.

Yeah... not 100% accurate there.
The Kurzweil uses a lot of roms yes, but it's also sampler and it uses a pretty complex matrix of subtractive synthesis, as well as additive synthesis. It's not *just* a rompler by any stretch of the imagination.
To be more specific, it does have the ability to create sound without any roms whatsoever :-)

It depends how much you're willing to spend Fretpick, I myself have just bought my first synth (Fantom X8) and am also a guitarist, it's easy to learn on.
If you're on a budget then a Triton can be had quite cheaply on ebay now.

All this info is so so great. I'm into finding out these thing's.Errr trouble is you've done my head in a bit with all the tech stuff. I need to read that all again. Cheers for all your help though!!! Very intresting I feel. For me it's like a whole new world that I never thought was there.
So I'm off to read, read, read, read about my Rom's,LFO bla, bla. See what I can learn.
Oh by the way I'm looking at these keyboard's & no offence but I carn't shell out £2900. That for me would be to much money. Also time wise my guitar comes first but there's no harm in a haveing a play around. I just think it would inharnce my music a little bit + add a new dimention to the project that I'd like to do.
THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP THOUGH. YOU GUYS ARE COOL!

Yer dude. I's looking at a Triton that's ending in a couple..Good price if all goes well. At the same time there's my dream guitar amp going to..If I don't get one,I'll try for the other. Either way I'll have fun. I like trying to get sound out of gear that noone is useing to as this add's a little..err What that in there?
I once got an auto harp.Look's like a little/tiny grand paino. Anyone seen one? About the size of a shoe box.
Anyway...I miced that up through a Digitech RP6 ( I Know a long time ago) then just added effect's. Some worked great others didn't. Tweek,Tweek & after a while I thought it sounded passable or as I'd put it showable.hehe.
It was a grand adventure.lol (What were you thinking steve.) Smile as one types. Just trying to do something a little diff.....a bit like what coming up soon.
Crap...I always thought that the K2600 wasnt a rompler simply because of the features Enigma mentioned. My bad... sorry.
