I was just wondering, songs like 6doit's Overture and sfam's Overture 1928..
How do they write such albums? Do they write the whole album first, and then the Overture? I could understand if Overture 1928 was written before the rest of the album, but Overture from 6doit?
What do you think?

It could be either before or after. Sometimes you write an overture with the intent to revisit the main themes throughout the album. Sometimes it's the other way around. You just start writing for the most part and see how it all comes together.

I guess they wrote the overtures after the album was done, or at least not before writing anything else on the album. It's like making the name of the song after the lyrics are written.

All I know is that according to MP, they wrote most of the Overture 1928 in the Offenbach venue in Germany back on the Falling into Infinity tour...
Peace out,

These are different things.
The 6DoIT parts were probably written as kind of single songs. Later on, there were put together, and the overture was probably written at last. I'm not sure, but I think so.
It's different with Overture 1928, because Metropolis Pt.2 was originally only one song, and the content of Overture 1928 was mostly part of this single song. Jordan did not write much of the music of the first couple of pieces of Scenes From a Memory.
Other bands really use the word "Overture" as a description for an introduction of something, it often doesn't tell you anything about its content anymore.

I don't excactly know about overture 1928 (as St0rMl0rD said, they wrote it in offenbach). but I know that the overture from 6DOIT was written first and then they made songs off the themes (read that in an interview somewhere).
